Right in time for Portugal's National Day,
SEVENTH
STORM enter new shores and will drag you right into their raging sea of
gothic metal, melancholic hard rock and thunderous riffs. After recently
announcing the release of their debut album “Maledictus” for August 12th,
2022, the quintet around ex-Moonspell drummer Mike Gaspar finally
unveils their first single and otherworldly beautiful song "Saudade".
"I wanted a song that spoke to the people with a care and love for our land”,
Gaspar says. “Our love for our parents. The memory of those we have
lost and miss so much. This feeling that some friends or relatives are still
here with us on our side guiding and giving us direction. One person I thought
of a lot was Peter Steele. He was an amazing human being and a good
friend. A gentle giant. I really felt like he was sometimes pushing me to do
what I was meant for.” Gaspar pauses and smiles sadly. “He was
also a huge fan of Portuguese culture and our wine of course."

Being the timekeeper of Portugal’s most
important metal band
MOONSPELL
for nearly 30 years, Mike Gaspar has finally settled on a new outlet with
which to celebrate his love for heavy metal, his cultural heritage, and his
passion for untamed, feral music with roots reaching deep into the fabric of our
world. Now barely a year after announcing their inception,
SEVENTH
STORM will unleash their debut album “Maledictus” on August 12th,
2022 via
Atomic Fire Records.
The omnipresence of death in the midst of blooming life and creativity is at the
centre of the band. Here we see a hungry combo arise that has given their soul
for their music. “My dream essentially was to try and bring back a bit of
that innocent nineties touch. And to mix traditional Portuguese music with
metal”, Gaspar explains.
With influences ranging from Bathory via Samael, Tiamat, Paradise
Lost, Fields of the Nephilim, Cradle of Filth and Dead Can Dance to
even Van Halen or Mötley Crüe,
SEVENTH
STORM are only just embarking on a journey across the wild and wondrous
waters of heavy metal history. And while not a concept album, "Maledictus"
– graced by an atmospheric painting from Victor Costa – is tied together
by a strong sense of pain and anger, paired with a flickering hope of
forgiveness for our lives.
Recorded at Dynamix Studios in Lisbon in May and October 2021, with
mixing duties handled by icon Tue Madsen,
SEVENTH
STORM completed their debut within a year after Gaspar's
departure from Moonspell – a demonstration of sheer willpower. He
remembers: "On the 25 of April of 2021 I announced my new band – the day the
Portuguese dictatorship ended back in 1974. We felt it would be a strong message
to announce the band on that date." For him and his band of buccaneers alike,
"Maledictus" is a new beginning. "It’s our grand stand,” he says. “This is
us showing that not all is lost. That our past was not in vain. We are here to
stay!"

that will start in a only a few weeks from now.

In 2010, guitarist Pedro Quelhas and drummer Cristiano Brito left gothic rock band Deep Cut, determined to venture into a new project. Soon after, they joined forces with guitarist Dinis Martins, bassist Rúben Oliveira and lead singer Ricardo Pereira, and founded Moonshade.
Influenced at first by northern Europe’s recent wave of melodic death metal bands, and with a clear goal of combining melodic and extreme elements, they released “The Path Of Redemption”, their first EP, which came out solely in digital format and was produced by Pedro Quelhas himself. After a few concerts, came the first lineup changes: Cristiano and Rúben left the band and bassist Afonso Aguiar joined the ranks.
In 2014, the band released their second EP, entitled “Dream | Oblivion” – their first work to be released in physical form. The album, which featured Luís Neto as a session drummer, was also produced by Pedro Quelhas, and its release was accompanied by the release of the “Goddess Eternal” single, as well as the addition of drummer Sandro Rodrigues to the lineup. In 2015, guitarist Daniel Laureano and keyboard player Nuno Barbosa joined the band, marking the dawn of a new era for Moonshade, who spent the next couple of years performing on some of Portugal’s biggest stages, such as Vagos Open Air, Pax Julia Metal Fest and Morbid Spring Fest, among others.
At the tail end of 2017, Afonso left the band and keyboardist Nuno became the band’s new bass player, a function he accumulated with his former one. This lineup recorded the “Sun Dethroned” album, the band’s debut full length. The record, a conceptual piece exploring the balance between good and evil, and its necessity in life, was released by Spanish label Art Gates Records, in 2018.
After a string of successful shows and Sandro’s departure, the band announced their first international shows, as part of the Dethroning Stars Tour, alongside fellow northern Portuguese band Apotheus, and featuring Diogo Mota as a live drummer.

and André Aaslie (Funeral, Images At Twilight, Gromth & Profane Burial)
and together with Asgeir Mickelson (Ex-Borknagar, Ihsahn) they recorded
the debut album 'A Winter's Tale' in February 2016 (Osmose Productions).
Later 2016 Tjodalv (Susperia, Ex-Dimmu Borgir, Old Man`s Child) and
Makhashanah (Henriette Bordvik) (Asagraum (Live), Ex-Sirenia) joined
ABYSSIC,
