THE BAND AND THE NEW ALBUM:

Swedish Symphonic Extreme Metallers Zornheym have returned, 4 years after the release of the brilliant debut album "Where Hatred Dwells... and Darkness Reigns", the wait sure was more than worthy, as the band has surely outdone themselves and brought forth their new conceptual album and horror story to be told over the "The Zornheim Sleep Experiment". This is an absolute magnum opus of its kind, an authentic maelstrom of terror combined with the most creative and grandiose symphonic extreme metal experience you might have heard, ever! I dare to say that "The Zornheim Sleep Experiment" is the best and most ambitious album of its kind I've ever heard; I know it's a bold statement but this horror meets symphonic extreme metal grandiose conceptual and theatrical masterpiece deserves all the credit and recognition. Why? Because it is That Good and Unique!

Zornheym is Stockholm (Sweden) based symphonic extreme metal band that has been founded and led by the multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Zorn who is known for his previous work with bands such as Devian, Dark Funeral (live), etc. after parting ways with the last one, he decided to revolutionize the traditional "Metal-meets-Symphony" standards and take them to the next level, an ambitious idea that grown into an outstanding and dramatic musical experience to its listeners, combining both musical and visual creations in an absolute new level with their cinematic music videos and terrorizing comic books which enhance the whole narrative driven concept of horror over this wicked asylum called Zornheim and its sick and twisted inmates, doctors, experiments... and beyond!
Four years passed since the gates of this mental institution and it's prisoners where imagined until the first album "Where Hatred Dwells and Darkness Reigns" [2017] was released via Non Serviam Records. The gates of Zornheim have been opened and the horrors revealed, a terrifying experience exploring the most horrendous characters who are incarcerated within this institution for the clinically insane! Ever since, the band been developing this cinematic and strong horrific identity which has reach its peak (so far) over the new conceptual and terrorizing experience "The Zornheim Sleep Experiment" which occurs at the depths of this asylum. Imagine an adrenaline increasing gas inducted sleep deprivation experiment with 9 guinea-pigs... ehrm mean Zornheim patients, which shall need to endure 30 days without sleeping. Some of these inmates have a range of aggressive personalities and violent history others a control group of calmer patients, all incarcerated in a high-security hermetic sealed chamber with only one observatory and intercom allowing this experience to be observed by the wicked asylum doctors! Expect no other than true mayhem, carnage and chaos... but will not spoil the fun with too much details by now!

THE BAND SOUND:
Zornheym have once again overcome any expectations and present a very own strong sound wall using a real choir and string quartet which creates the essential atmosphere to bring this horror story to life in the most vivid way! Symphonic extreme metal can't simply sound better than this majestic creation where black and death metal elements combine in perfection with the traditional heavy metal vocals and melodies, the omnipresent symphonic elements are beyond amazing and take you deep into the action of this horrid scenario. A delicacy to one's senses which elevates this piece of art to an absolute new level of symphonic and extreme metal.
"The Zornheim Sleep Experiment" is without a doubt proof of the musician's top-quality skills and inborn talent. The symphonic monumental elements combined with exquisite ear sticking melodies and extravagant guitar solos performed by Zorn and Scucca are virtuous expressions of grandiose proportions, in the same way impressive is the whole vocal performance by Bendler (ex-Scar Symmetry, ex-Facebreaker, etc.), putting him in the pantheon of metal singers, from clean vocals to vicious growls and vociferations, this singer can do about everything in the most perfected way. Long since I follow his work and here, I can only say he sure outdone himself. A big hail to Zorn (Tomas Nilsson) who is the founder and mastermind of this whole band for materializing his long-time master plan. No words can describe this creation well enough; you need to listen to the music while reading the horror story attached to witness the true power of this colossal and theatrical symphonic extreme metal creation!
Once again, the band used the Wing Studios and the extreme metal guru producer Sverker Widgren (Diabolical, October Tide, Demonical, etc.) for the new album recordings and production, I can only say that this hard task of recording and combining all the endless channels of music couldn't be handled by a better and more experienced producer than Sverker, he also has outdone himself on this grandiose epic music creation!

THE STORY TO BE TOLD:
Zornheym bring forth an absolute new theatrical horror meets metal experience! Their debut album "Where Hatred Dwells... and Darkness Reigns" presented and introduced the listeners to the tale of some of Zornheim asylum inmates who were incarcerated on this dark sinister place. Now the new album pretty much starts where the previous one ended and the connecting link of both is Angelika Engel, the patient that was visited by demonic figures on her dreams ("Whom the night brings" - song from the debut album). She claimed that while dreaming these demons were slowly possessing her and making her leave her humanity behind, succumbing in this way to our prime evil essence! Curious about this and in search for the fundament of "why we humans needs to sleep?" and also why we lose a third of our lives sleeping, the wicked Dr. Bettelheim and Dr. Gutzmann decided to conduct the infamous "Zornheim Sleep Experiment".
This 30 days sleep deprivation experiment  (so it was planned) pretty much consisted in incarcerating nine patients, some with known aggressive behaviour and a control group of calmer individuals all locked in a hermetically sealed "Chamber" in Zornheim basement, this hermetically sealed room only had one round observatory and an inner intercom allowing the subjects to be monitored by the doctors while applying increasing doses of an adrenaline raising gas called Adrenochrome, which reduced the patients need to sleep.
The first days where quite calm. Patients where using writing material, reading books and talking to each other's, this seemed to keep everybody busy at the time, but as the first sleepless days where passing things got silent, too silent... but when the inner demons of the experiment subjects (Z-SES) finally caught control, all hell broke loose in a bloody gore spectacle caused by the increasing gas addiction and sleep deprivation effects, reminding us all that our primal hidden instincts can be exposed once we are tested to the limits and deprived of our most natural needs!
The essence of this whole frightening scenario was remarkably recreated over the album cover art done by the Portuguese raising art genius Pedro Sena "Lordigan".
But well... since I don't want to spoil you fun, you must buy and listen to the whole album and read the comic book/horror tale to experience this most addicting piece of art in all its splendour and most monumental form! 

DEEPER INTO THE ALBUM:
"The Zornheim Sleep Experiment" is one of those extraordinary albums where I can't find one lesser good track, the whole compositions for the main songs, intros and outro fit on each other in such an astonishing way that you can't stop listening this cohesive symphonic extreme metal masterpiece on repeat as I did once I first got the chance to witness the full brilliance of the new Zornheym opus! Jaw dropping tracks one after the other with a very strong connection bonding them all, with this, the band creates an increasing tension and an easy-to-follow narrative that shall give you Goosebumps just by listening to it. Each new listening shall get you more and more addicted and take you deeper into the outstanding details of this whole horrid scenario!

"Corpus Vile" song introduces us to the new tale to be told, unveiling the details of this mischievous experiment, an outstanding symphonic piece of art, combining in perfection the extreme metal aggression with the traditional heavy metal melody and outstanding clean vocals, all without losing any heaviness to the whole sound and majesty of the symphonic elements. The choruses, guitar leads and solos are about brilliant... love the Latin sung ending chorus together with the whole melodic essence of this song, so powerful and absolutely jaw dropping!

"An Evil Within" introduces one of the best and most compelling songs of this masterpiece, "Dead Silence" is one of those tracks that shall hook you since the very first listening, fast and vicious this song is absolutely amazing. The chorus shall be haunting your brain and force you to listen to this delicacy on repeat! The main solo is a true mind-blowing delight to the tortured ears, what elegance in a neo-classical inspired piece. The combination of fast and absolutely demented moments on this song express this album dynamics at best...
While silence reigns in "the chamber" of horrors to come, something wicked grows inside of our subjects minds, fear rises as the demons inside are yearning to be unchained!

The first reactions to sleepless nights and anxiety are being revealed as the patients are trying to "Keep the Devil Away", gathering in a circle and grabbing the gas masks in a sort of revering, seems the gas is taking over their minds!
"Keep the Devil Away" is in my opinion one of the best tracks ever created by the band. Hard to categorize such brilliance and amazing combination of melody and deranged vocalizations. The classic music driven guitar solos are proof of the virtuous talent of both guitarists, love at first listening, I say! This stunning musical blend should be driving you insane already by now... no wonder you might be caught singing along with main chorus in the most addictive way... this album is simply mind-blowing! No words can describe the feeling!

The ritual worship of the gas... masks continues over "Slumber comes in Time", Z-SES tormenting whispers are confusing the impatient doctors, should it be an emerging plot or pure paranoid behaviour? This is yet another outstanding epic track with highly addictive choruses (some sung in Swedish) and orchestrations, this time with the aid of some folk elements. This is without a doubt another of my personal favourite songs of this whole piece, a sing along majestic and melodious piece of art!

"The Black Nine" was the infamous name to honour the ninth disastrous day of the experiment. Lunacy rises, screams invade the chamber and all hell is breaking loose in this blackest day where "The observatory" was all covered up in the most disgusting way! An eerie chorus haunts this whole song and gives you shivers just by listening, a frightening powerful track of epic proportions that takes you deeper into the horrors of this cinematic masterpiece! Sinister, bleak and disturbing... this is one of the darkest tracks of this album combining symphonic black and death metal elements in the ghostliest way!

The "The Veiling Of Bettelheims Eye" (observatory) introduces one of the heaviest Zornheym tracks entitled "The Revelation". Deep and obscure, it's the perfect track to unveil the macabre spectacle that was found by the asylum guards and doctors once they entered the "the chamber". The food was untouched by the patients but yet they fed (wonder of what?), a spectacle of gore not for the faint-hearted. "Stay away, don't want to be Free" was the chant repeated by the patients that shall torment you just by listening to it! These deprived and addicted assailants have requested that the gas was turned back on, meanwhile they were attacking violently the guards.
This is undoubtedly an amazing and mesmerizing theme of horror of the most epic proportions that shall drag you deeper into this chamber of horrors.

"Keep Cutting" is another frenetic masterpiece of pure dementia, a mirror to the chaos that is reigning over the whole Zornheim Sleep Experiment. The doctors are trying to save the mutilated patients at all costs as they're slowly losing conscience and dying instantly, those who remain conscient begged to remain awake by any means necessary, so... "keep cutting" some said with a psychotic smile on their lips!
Absolutely amazing how the band combines such aggressive and fast sound with the most melodious elements like the marvellous solo and the psychotic driven insane vocals by Bendler, who undoubtedly gives his best vocal performance ever on this album, particularly on this track!

"The Madness That Lurks Within" is the epilogue for such imaginative conceptual piece of art, another smashing symphonic instrumental song that ends this masterpiece and terminates "The Zornheim Sleep Experiment" and the horrors that it has been revealed! At the end of this monumental carnage, we understand what we may yet become under sleep deprivation. We should fear the awaking of our deepest animal instincts and in this way becoming the frightening beast we so often fear at night. This was the conclusion the Zornheim doctors might have reached after shutting down this chamber where the savage and primal instincts of man have been revealed in such a horrid experiment!

THE CONCLUSION:
Zornheym "The Zornheim Sleep Experiment" is without a doubt one of the best and most addicting albums of 2021! In my opinion it's one of the best symphonic extreme metal creations ever done!
"The Zornheim Sleep Experiment" is an ambitious work of excellence that goes beyond the realms of music, this disturbing conceptual masterpiece of theatrical art takes you deep into Zornheim asylum horrific sleep deprivation experience conducted by its mischievous doctors. This is a perfect marriage of symphonic extreme metal and terror/horror tales. This is a whole new elaborate experience born from the genius minds of its creators! Zorn long-time master-plan has reached epic proportions with this new Magnum Opus. This is one of those theatrical/cinematic conceptual works that takes the bands creations to a new level in a class of its own!
From time to time an extraordinary piece of art is created, so unique that becomes impossible to qualify in a regular basis, "The Zornheim Sleep Experiment" is one of those creations that shall leave no one indifferent. That is why I given the rate of 10+1/10, simply an album better than anything I heard in a long, long time. A grandiose and extraordinary piece of art in all aspects!

Embrace the realms of human madness inducted by sleep deprivation, discover the most primal beast locked within us all, awaken from slumber from our mind's deepest abyss!

THE BAND AND THE NEW ALBUM:

Inspired by the troubled times we all live in through COVID-19 pandemics comes the third album of Swedish sensation band WORMWOOD. "Arkivet" is the band new conceptual album that comes with a severe warning towards Mankind as we devour Nature resources in a vertiginous way, which in time shall be our own downfall into extinction. The album concept serves as awareness and ecological conscience to all Humanity, who constantly keeps on draining Earth resources, paving in this way our path to self-destruction and the end of another era on this exhausted planet, mistake after mistake, this is how we all shall fall!

WORMWOOD is a band forged in the heathen flames of Rydsheim (Sweden) in 2014. Musically speaking WORMWOOD is a band hard to categorize, they play melodic black metal with allot of folk, atmospheric and even experimental elements that could fit on some 70's 80's heavy / rock bands. All of this scorching musical blend together creates an unpredictable and unexpected mix that has defined WORMWOOD identity through the years, allowing the band to get allot of attention from the media and metal adepts in general, no wonder they have participated already in some great tours and festivals. With this ascension thought the years WORMWOOD have become one of the leading bands on Swedish metal scene, but yet allot more is to come in their promising career!

"Arkivet" new album, first meant to be entitled "Vita Arkivet" (English = The white archive), then changed due to legal problems, is the follow up creation to "Nattarvet" (English = The Night's Heritage) a highly acclaimed album which ascended to the Swedish charts and was nominated for several awards. The new album, doesn't limit to follow its predecessor footsteps into success, in fact there are several developments and new elements added to this new amazing piece. Some are easier to notice than others like the whole new sound production, mainly the drums! Daniel drums on this piece sound rawer than ever, rougher in a primordial old-fashioned way, giving the whole sound a different dynamics and old-school organic sound, if that wasn't enough, here and there you may notice the incursion of some traditional heavy metal oriented elements, sometimes the drums may even remind you Nicko McBrain Iron Maiden'ish style of percussion, giving with it an even wider range of expansion to the bands own typical sound! Yet WORMWOOD still sound like themselves, and yes, you can identify their sound easily, so don't fear! Another thing you may notice is that WORMWOOD have included more of their amazing atmospheric/experimental, almost transcendental moments, if you listened to "Nattarvet" you will know what I mean. On the new and outstanding opus of melodic black metal you can experience these special moments in almost each and every track.
Also something to be noticed on the new album is the fact that the guest vocal appearances are way more discrete and merge perfectly with Nine main vocals and Oscar and Tobias backing vocals. On the other hand, remaining constant as on previous albums, the violin parts played by Martin Björklund are as always, a pleasant presence wherever they can be heard on any of WORMWOOD creations. In my opinion this is also an identity enhancer for the band quintessence, keeping in this way their Scandinavian folk distinctiveness, something that the band already got us used since their very first release until the current times. Another constant on this album is the guitar brilliance and daring sound, something that we have been used also since previous albums, from harsh black metal, catchy melodic, head-banging heavy metal riffage to experimental or atmospheric heavy/rock, we have it all on this amazing guitar work done by Tobias and Jerry.
"Arkivet" recording and production by renowned pop/dance producer Jonathan Ojeda might be the most significant change and surprise of them all on the usual WORMWOOD sound as I mentioned before. "Arkivet" sounds way different from any of its predecessors, hard to believe that Metal music isn't the producer usual comfort zone, this since the new album sounds quite Metal'ish in an old-fashioned way, keeping each musical elements with their most primordial and old-school vibe.

While the first album "Ghostlands..." was inspired by the admiration of the cosmos and Scandinavian wonders and the second album "Nattarvet" was inspired by the famine and harsh times in Swedish past, the new album gets its inspiration from the book "Arkivet/The Archive" from the very talented Swedish author Mikael Strömberg, and it deals with the last days of Mankind on this Earth, the ultimate end of the Human kind who exhausted their planet resources. We simply can't co-exist with the surrounding Nature without draining it completely for our own good and wickedness. Humanity is sure to fail and there is nothing we can do to avoid our self-destruction, our inability to adapt in a to this world and live sustainably will be our ultimate doom! Mother-Nature will take what is Hers and we shall fade into oblivion! "Arkivet" comes without any doubts with a strong environmental awareness and warning!
The new and audacious conceptual album is quite emotive and strong, carrying with it a strong message to its listeners, teasing them to act before it's too late... but as the album reaches to its end you will understand that we are already too late to redeem the harm we have created on this wounded and bleeding Earth, scarred from all our actions and evil deeds! ... in the end, we deserve to die!


TRACK-BY-TRACK:
"Arkivet" is above all a mature melodic black metal experience, a journey across Mankind fails on this Earth! WORMWOOD has always been a band attached to Nature and ecology since their beginning, so it's without surprise that we have such a strong enlightening creation. The new album brings forwards a rawer and ferocious sound full of hatred and awareness towards Humanity past, present and future faults on this World that we've been destroying since the birth of our times.
"Arkivet" new album is as usual quite uniform in quality and rises in tension till its end, track-by-track you can feel it while you are absorbed by such surrounding sound which carries such a strong message that you can't simply be indifferent to. The more you listen to "Arkivet" the more details you will find and, in this way, you will enjoy it more and more on each listening, first you may find it strange but once you go deeper you will be amazed with it! So, sit down and listen to the sound of the coming Apocalypse!

"The Archive" introduces us to this great conceptual album and it tells us about the last story written by the few hopeless human survivors of this self-inflicted Apocalypse, it tells us about our Mankind faults on preserving Mother-Nature most valuable elements which are indispensable for us to live our lives. One by one, we are certain to die and pay for the evil than Man has done to this Earth!
This is a fast song with a captivating melody that shall be stuck to your ears since first listening, an easy to follow, well balanced song with a catchy melody in a melancholic atmosphere. "The Archive" song has all that essential sound that defines WORMWOOD as a band! Including a great fitting experimental rock moment, some renewed old-school drumming sound and ferocious blast-beats. No wonder this is one of my favourite tracks of the album! 

"Overgrowth" is the following track and it represents the ill-natured Human behaviour as it constantly overcomes of all possible limits and warning sings given by Mother-Nature, we simply gone one step too far and She shall take back what is hers! We are doomed to end our own kind in a self-inflicted extinction, killing the few who have yet survived!
This is another catchy and melodic song that will easily get stuck on your ears, at least it got on mine as it's also one of my favourite songs of the album! A natural head-banging song with a smashing heavy metal oriented solo, you can also notice the incursion of some unusual musical elements on WORMWOOD typical sound that constantly grows and reinvents itself in this way!

"End of Message" is the final message from the last of our kind, a testament send towards the black cosmos just before we fade out and disappear from this World! Hoping that someone will listen to this final message in the future so that they don't repeat same mistakes again on this Earth.
This is a melancholic song charged with a strong feeling of despair, hate and regret. An amazing combination of aggression and sorrowful moments condense into another outstanding and well-balanced melodic song! This is another track which defines WORMWOOD sound at best!

"My Northern Heart" is a brilliant hymn to WORMWOOD Northern ancestors and unspoiled lands. A song with a very powerful folk vibe and atmosphere, revealing the band roots at best and with it creating an anthem of pure Scandinavian quintessence! No wonder this is my favourite track of this whole album, and one of the best WORMWOOD tracks ever created in my opinion, I simply love it! It reminds me of some timeless heavy metal classics combined with WORMWOOD strong Scandinavian folk and melodic black metal identity. On this track the heartfelt choirs and strong folk vibe elevate this heathen monolith into high grounds of Epic grandeur!

"Ensamheten" which ended up being the only song sung in Swedish is a romantic and sentimental view of Northern lands as they collapse into ruin. This is a song that expresses loads of different emotional states, all charged with a huge melancholic feeling.
"Ensamheten" is another song where the whole folk elements, mainly the violin by Martin Björklund make all the difference, carving in this way the deep mark of WORMWOOD strong Scandinavian identity and roots! Go deeper into the song and surround yourself of a heathen surrounding atmosphere of primordial splendour!

"The Slow Drown" is a hopeless journey upon this ruined and condemned planet Earth. There are many meanings to "The End of the World", but in this case, it deals with the downfall of a demented old lady who lives alone and can't remember why the whole World around her is collapsing. This is probably the most "outsider" track of this "Arkivet" album. Be sure to experience an emotional journey across musical landscapes of sound, crossing fields of mid-tempo post rock, blackened heavy metal, among others. This is a slower and daring song that testify WORMWOOD own unpredictable sound definition, proving that they are a band always evolving and refusing to do the expected!

"The Gentle Touch of Humanity" is the perfect apocalyptic ending track that concludes this epic piece! As Humanity ravishes this planet, we are sure to fall into ruin, witness the afterbirth of Man's downfall. This is a song with a very strong emotional charge and a deep melancholic feeling of hopelessness. We are Mother-Nature disease, we are the destroyers of all around us, Humanity aims only for profit above anything else. In the end and since we can't eat money, we shall only dig our own graves. Doomsday prophecies are upon us... this is our final chapter on this Earth!
This song is a huge environmentalist shout towards our conscience, the longest and natural ending track for this conceptual piece, it has a bit of everything from catchy "ear-sticking" melodies, chaotic anger and ravenous blast beats, some very direct rock sound with some blues influenced guitar solos and even a very emotional collage of news reports about severe nature warnings we stubbornly ignore and that culminate in our own World collapse! An interesting detail was the use of the SOS distress signal in Morse code on some drum beats!
Without a doubt this had to be also one of my favourite tracks of this amazing new WORMWOOD album, proving that the band musical horizons go way beyond any possible definition, something only possible once you have such amazingly talented musicians onboard!


THE CONCLUSION:
"Arkivet" is without a doubt WORMWOODs most daring and old-fashioned melodic black metal creation to the date. Amazingly this is only the third chapter of this Swedish sensation band most promising career! On this chapter, which is a conceptual piece the band got inspired by the current pandemics situation and describe the last days of Humanity on this dying world. Our incapability of sharing this planet with others shall be our own path to self-destruction, ultimately Nature shall take back what is hers and with it the natural balance shall be re-established. This post-apocalyptic journey shall take you deep into Mankind failures and faults that shall lead us to our ultimate End, all of this based on Mikael Strömberg book "Arkivet / The Archive" a testament to our presence on this Earth!
As a fan of previous WORMWOOD albums expect some significant changes, mostly concerning the album production. On this chapter the album detaches a quite allot from its predecessors, but don't fear, once it comes to the band identity and essence you still have it all there and easily you can say this is another great WORMWOOD melodic black metal album with a great folk, atmospheric and experimental touch.
"Arkivet" has a strong bound with both of the previous albums and that bound is the massive importance that Nature has on our lives, easy to notice that this is a band with a high concern towards the environment and they express it though all their creations, each of them comes with a high conscience that whatever we give to Nature we will get back and in the end of all things She shall claim what is Hers!
Some may call WORMWOOD an environmentalist black metal band... I never liked labels so say what you will, I rather say that this is an amazing metal band from Sweden that doesn't stop impressing us, the listeners, release after release! All that matters is that "Arkivet" has all to become one of the best melodic black metal albums of 2021 year!

THE BAND AND THE NEW ALBUM:

Swedish death metal militia Demonical have returned with their sixth full-length album entitled "World Domination" that is in my opinion one of the best offers of it's genre for 2020. This album marks the return of the bands original drummer Ronnie Bergerstål (2006-2011, 2019-present) and the debut album with their vocalist Christofer Sätderdal who has done an remarkable work on this piece of old-school death metal art!
Demonical are already an institution of death metal over Swedish lands and not only, the band has unleashed old fashioned death metal since 2006, founded by members of the legendary band Centinex. Ever since they have been unleashing their ferocious Swedish HM-2 driven annihilation anthems on a vicious mix of addictive melodies, dark atmosphere and brutal sound, all of this in a top-quality malignant recipe!
Demonical has been discharging their aggressive death metal artillery in the past over several hundred shows all over Europe, North America, Brazil and  Russia. Demonical have take part of countless festivals and tours both as headline and support... in all, the band is a reference of excellence within their genre, I dare to say that Demonical are one of the best Swedish Death Metal bands out there, even knowing the concurrence is fierce and strong!
With "World Domination" Demonical rises with full-force and are ready conquer your ears with one of their best pieces ever, combining both new and old elements that forged the essence of the band sound!
This new album will surely please adepts of bands such as Grave, Hypocrisy, Centinex, Firespawn, Dismember among others!

"World Domination" follows the path from the band previous release "Chaos Manifesto" [2018 Agonia Records], yet with a renewed merciless formula, including extra dynamics as well as new enriching and addicting elements like the blend of other metal genres beyond the usual death metal definition, drinking inspiration from doom or heavy metal music among other metal genres and creating with it an enriching metal experience across the whole album length! The final result is one of the most vivid creations done by the band so far, the sound is organic and has a whole new energy on it, the sound of each creation of this new album breathes naturally and has an energetic vibe attached to it. The final result of the band sound has the genius touch of the award winning producer Karl Daniel Lidén (Bloodbath, Katatonia) at Tri-Lamb Studios, he was responsible once again for the mix and mastering! A perfect match for Demonical new creations, never too clean nor polished but sounding powerful and brutal as hell, always loyal to the bands sound and dark creations!
The sinister and decadent artwork by Susan Wicher and photos by the well known master of arts Jens Ryden (Marduk, Necrophobic, Diabolical, etc.) give the best matching image to the band intentions and get back that simple, but effective art vibe on a typical death metal piece... something that should be direct and uncomplicated!
On "World Domination", Demonical have enhanced their impressive sound into a whole new level, exploring with this new album some new elements never attempted before that enrich each track across this intense piece of old-fashioned death metal art!

TRACK-BY-TRACK:
- "World Domination" shall make you travel back in time to the end of the 80's and start of the 90's metal music, a journey back to times of old-fashioned metal glory, this across eight scorching tracks of death and destruction. I must say I can't find a lesser great song on this whole piece, one death metal anthem after another... impressive how the band manages to keep the intensity levels at their peak, hooking the listeners to the whole album from the beginning to it's end.
- "My Kingdom Done" is the ravaging opening track and one of the best tracks on the album if you ask me, this is a fast and voracious song where "all hell breaks loose"! An intense typical death metal song with all the best Swedish old-fashioned vibe. The vicious melody shall keep you hooked at the very first listening! Impressive how Demonical keep on discharging such amazing sound and reinventing their own brutal music! Just like a raging storm, Demonical should be ruling your ears by now!
- "Hellfire Rain" is another merciless and typical death metal anthem, an amazing brutal and powerful track. Frenetic and addicting this song will make your head bang from the beginning to it's end, impossible to be indifferent to such ferocious fast track that is one of my favourites of the whole piece! Impressive to say the very least!
- "Aeons of Death" is another of my favourite tracks of this whole album, an authentic epic death metal monument! "Aeons of Death" is a slower but very strong track with a very own sinister and apocalyptic vibe, this time Demonical present a deeper and more epic version of their own sound! Watch as we all march towards our own end... the death of mankind is near!
- "The Thin Darkness" is another demolishing song, fast and brutal it devastates your ears with such sonic blast, but wait, Demonical have given a smashing doom metal oriented twist at the middle of this song that takes their sound dynamics to an absolute amazing level... yet never abandoning the band essential sound, revealing in this way that the band has allot to offer once it comes to extreme metal music diversity!
- "We Stand as One" follows and without losing even a bit of intensity the band invades your ears with another malignant first-raising piece of death metal. Sheer brutality towards your ears that will make your head bang without an end! "We stand as One, United as a Horde!"
- "Victorious" brings back that great epic vibe, this time in a more dominant way. A victorious march towards ancient glory! This is a slower track that gives once again an impressive balance to the whole album, keeping in this way the listeners captive to such enriching musical experience!
- "Slipping Apart" shall take you back in time, back to the 80's and those years of metal music glory! Can you imagine Demonical meeting up with DIO and creating a memorable metal ballad as if we where back on those heavy metal glory days? Well, Demonical still don't have the powers to resurrect the legendary Ronnie J. Dio, but the participation and vocals on this song by the guest musician Nils Patrik Johansson (Astral Doors, ex- Civil War, Calescent Punishment) are not lesser amazing than those of the metal icon himself. This track is a true "outsider" but for me it's one of the best and most addicting tracks of the whole album, I simply love the way they combined this traditional Heavy Metal ballad that sticks in your ears with their own death metal sound. A delightful mix of both worlds who never been so close... yet so very often apart!
- "Calescent Punishment" is the scorching ending track that finishes the album as it has started... a pure hell-fire Armageddon in a clear display that this is an old-school death metal piece of art, done by a band that is on top of what is being done in this genre. Demonical has given with this album a clear display that they have what it takes to dominate this world of death metal!

THE CONCLUSION:
"World Domination" consolidates Demonical as one of the best expressions of Swedish old-school death metal out there. This new album is a distinct proof of dominance over today's days death metal world! A sound amazingly brutal and melodic, able to bring you back to the old days of metal music glory with their old-fashioned creations! Demonical will always sound like Demonical, undoubtedly they are one of those bands that are true to their sound and I can only say that traditional Swedish death metal can't sound much better than this!
Demonical have all to rise triumphant upon this repetitive extreme metal world where death metal has become some sort of fashion, hard to find a band with notorious quality through the years able to reinvent their sound release after release, making each of their creations to sound fresh, fierce and grandiose! Demonical have all of that and much more, the older, the better, this in a clear mark of musical perseverance and dominance!
"World Domination" is in my opinion one of the best classic death metal albums I heard in years and by far the best album ever created by the band to the date! Intensive, aggressive and so damn addictive!
With all this said, I think that the band couldn't pick a better title for this amazing piece. "World Domination" is the perfect title for this amazing new album, just listen to it and witness Demonical taking this Metal World by storm! "World Domination" has all what it takes to be the best death metal album of this cursed 2020 year!

THE BAND AND THE ALBUM:

Cathartic black metal sensation band GAEREA are about to release their second and most profound and challenging creation to the date, the tormenting new album entitled "Limbo" overcomes all that this vortex community has created before and proving with it that GAEREA is a band to keep a close eye on and to follow very carefully, a band that quickly caught worldwide attention, respected both by media and extreme metal adepts! The band had an absolute meteoric ascension, achieved uniquely by own merit and the combination individual members talents and geniality. The reasons for the band success came not only from of their strong visual aesthetics but at most by the whole GAEREA concept... a combination of both powerful and emotional music with matching video creations, still, if that wasn't enough their strong theatrical/atmospheric presentations on each of their live performances shall leave no one indifferent to such obscure disturbing arts.

GAEREA are a mysterious black metal quintet from Portugal that have emerged upon this world in the beginning of the year 2016. At fall of the same year the band has already released their self-titled debut EP (released by Everlasting Spew Records) which was an authentic mind-blowing piece of twisted black metal art, a sick creation that left no one indifferent to such tormenting dark splendour. The very positive reactions came from all over the globe!
Two years later the band has unleashed upon this tortured world their debut full-length entitled "Unsettling Whispers" (Transcending Obscurity Records). This album has become the consolidation of what the band has been paved through the previous years, reaching a notorious integrity and solid identity and in this way defining a brilliant path ahead. GAEREA have received the best reviews and made themselves noticed all over the extreme metal universe, this has allowed them to tour with bands such as Jupiterean, Numenorean across Europe and also do a headlining tour over China. GAEREA have performed in great festivals such as SWR Barroselas (POR), Throne Fest (BEL), Frantic Fest (ITA), among many others!

For those who will have their first contact with the band, I can only say that they are among the best new black metal bands out there, GAEREA shall please adepts of bands such as MGLA, Uada, Mephorash among others.

Now signed with one of the best European record labels, Season of Mist, the band will soon release "Limbo" which is one of the best albums I personally heard of its genre in a long, long time!
Words cannot describe the magnitude of this amazing piece of blackest metal art, so intense, so decadent, so profound... a disturbing and an absolute mind-twisting masterpiece! GAEREA took a huge step forwards from the predecessor album to this new one, reaching a level of maturity that the most of the bands take ages to acquire. GAEREA have now reach a solid identity, something that flows naturally on each of their organic musical creations.
"Limbo" is a "Nightmarish" emotional journey across an abyss of pain, suffering and despair... watch our decadent human society as it falls deep into a void of numbness, an abyss of endless torment! The new album becomes in all its length a vivid experience to ones senses that shall awaken ones conscience to what our fragile world has become.


ALBUM DETAILS:
"Limbo" is one of the best metal albums ever to emerge from Portuguese lands, an elaborate work of extreme metal excellence that was recorded, mixed and mastered over Demigod Recordings in Portugal by the genius hands of Miguel Tereso. The final work is beyond amazing, I think that GAEREA couldn't pick a better option for this masterpiece creation as their music breathes, flows and gets its own life though this world-class and elite level final product result. "Limbo" has a perfect symbiosis of all musical elements, sounding organic and never over polished, yet and always with the best musical definition and own identity! A studio/producer to keep in mind for bands worldwide!

GAEREA lyrics follow the line of the previous releases, keeping the essence of the main band thematic and concept. "Limbo" is an emotional journey beneath the blackened skies of modern society, a place where our lives are highly controlled and formatted by higher powers. We are nothing on this vortex community, just another lost soul with predestined destiny, no control over our path. As disturbing as it may be, the only way to escape from this void is to end up our pitiful lives.
This sinister world has no real values, no real life, this is just a huge vortex of nothingness. Today's society has made things so vain that you can't even be entirely free to live on your own! This is the world of GAEREA, something they explore through their elaborate and eloquent lyricism!

GAEREA vocals are one of the most important parts of their music as they express at best the power of the strongest and deeper emotions like agony, despair, suffering, anguish, sorrow, disturbance, hatred, etc. The equilibrium between vociferations, guttural and whispered vocals give all the right dynamics and tension to the whole piece. GAEREA vocalist is a force of nature and has here a flawless performance, same can be felt on the band live shows with an intense visual experience!
The drums and guitars as the whole GAEREA sound has become even deeper and more intense than ever before, also intentionally rawer and faster than over previous works. The whole sound and atmosphere created by each track is explored to the maximum level of detail, carefully elaborated as all the masterpieces of pure Alchemy, a tormenting delight to ones ears and a true masterpiece of black metal art!

The album cover art has been done by Eliran Kantor who has created already fantastic works for bands such as Testament, Iced Earth, Sodom, among others. This time he has illustrated the whole "Limbo" concept in another amazing, yet disturbing painting, an art so vivid and full of meaning, giving you a glimpse of what the album is all about. A world of wondering formatted souls in a senseless void of emotions, a lifeless world of monotony! To awake from such a world (Limbo) is to give a meaning to your life and make it your own by stepping out of the pack and leaving those who are lost to this void way behind our backs!


TRACK-BY-TRACK:
With "Limbo" GAEREA took a great step forwards from the debut album "Unsettling Whispers", enhancing each of its elements into a grandiose emotional level, this is without a doubt a rawer and faster album where easily you can trace the bands very own identity, a notorious disturbing character both intense and obscure. "Limbo" shall leave a mark on their listeners who can't be indifferent to such abominable black metal creation. The more you listen to it, the more you get deeper into this void society and hollow existence of Man over such rotten universe!

"To Ain" introduces the listeners to this decaying world where we are all owned, just "Slaves of our own creation", victims of our own deeds which culminated on this void society we all live in, a wondering abyss from which we may never return.
This is in my opinion one of the best tracks ever created by the band, capable of reaching an emotional level that shall give you Goosebumps and shivers down your spine. A hymn of darkest splendour that combines the best elements that define GAEREA ever-growing sound, an authentic nightmarish vision of our existence in this world of hurt, pain and agony! I simply love the tension and heaviness that they put on this music.
The break in the middle of the song is beyond amazing as it slows everything down and makes you transcend for a while into a moment of clarity, simply something you need to listen and experience, this is such bliss among massive agonising darkness, moments like this make you go deeper into the bands world and music. After this amazing moment the band ravages your ears once again with such intentional torturing darkness, hitting you hard and with a voracious malice! Amazing!

"Null" quickly follows, this is a song that explores the vision of the undying martyrs, souls of another time which had the power of living their lives on their own, not a forced life that was programmed and predestined even before our birth! This is a song about defiance of common standards that teases you to escape from this senseless world!
"Null" is another fast instigating track with a really catchy melody, a song that will be in your ears since the very first listening. The level of intensity of each track is something that the band meticulously measures and masters like few this days, this song is a proof of that balance and extremity!

"Glare" is the next track and one of the fastest and most brutal songs of this whole nightmarish piece of black metal art! A both aggressive and vicious song full of pure dark adrenaline!
"Glare" is a frenetic journey across lands of false hopes and dreams, a place we may never escape from and may never see but a glimpse of light (life itself), something that seems so unreachable since we (Humanity) are meant to follow not lead!
"Glare" reveals a rawer and faster approach to GAEREA traditional sound, something that shall be a delight to all those who like their black metal both aggressive and brutal!

"Conspiranoia" comes next, a deeper dark and tormenting song that allows your already tortured ears to rest... but only for a while! A well balanced dark eerie track with some haunting chants that shall give you shivers and absorb your attention towards such sinister creation.
"Conspiranoia" makes you wonder why we live our lives so indifferent to what we might achieve. We should dare to explore more our own capacities and become something more than just a slave to this predestined monotony. This is without a doubt the point our lives have become these days over our modern societies. Living our life with inertia is like living our life with a blindfold, we could all reach much further if only we could see through our own our eyes and explore the world around us!

"Urge" is the track that follows and it deals with this vain and senseless world we all live in, a world of sensual emptiness, formatted by higher standards where you cannot live your own life in our own way unless you make a stand urgently, we should all use this will to achieve our own goals!
With "Urge", GAEREA reveal a whole new "death metal'ish" approach that gives this song particularly and the whole album in general a daring diversity within extreme metal sound proving with it that GAEREA musical horizons go way beyond any black metal boundaries. With it they create a whole new experience that shall please any extreme metal adepts.
This is another track that that gets out of the pack and proves that this band has still allot to offer to their listeners, hard to believe that this is only their 2nd album! Such level of maturity and meticulous musical measures elevate each of GAEREA creations!

"Mare" is the last and longest track of such transcendental masterpiece; this is a nightmarish vision of what our lives have become on today's modern societies.
Far on the deep horizon our eyes can already visualize the long-promised freedom. To reach this goal in life seem not that far away, but what in a way seems to be at your grasp may yet be so far away once you finally try to reach for it.
It's always an hard task to crawl from the deepest abyss to embrace this so called paradise, the utopia of a promised land! ... shall we ever reach it?... or shall we all die trying!
This is a true musical nightmare of eerie whispers and doomed chants, a hymn to all human damnation in a world without sense. As on the whole album the balance of heaviness and slower but painful moments give this whole piece a dose of intensity and depth that puts this band on top of what is being done in extreme metal this days!
To finish this inglorious requiem with a golden key we have a unsettling instrumental outro!

THE CONCLUSION:
GAEREA new album "Limbo" consolidates the band status as one of the most promising black metal bands out there. “Limbo” is an album so intense, emotional and vivid that hardly you will find words strong enough to describe it without diminishing this grandiose and defiant black metal creation.
