Germany, 1486: The Dominican inquisitors Kramer and Sprenger publish "MALLEUS
MALEFICARUM" "The Hammer of the Witches", the most important book on the
Headhunt and execution of witches and heretics in medieval Europe. The book
features detailed information on how to recognize, judge and execute the
witches. MALLEUS MALEFICARUM was approved by the Catholic Church in the year of
1487.
Norway, 1986: Five guys from the Sarpsborg area in southeast Norway get together
to form Withchammer, playing compromiseless thrashy HM with melodic
overtones and drawing inspiration to many of their lyrical concepts from the
MALLEUS MALEFICARUM, from which the name also is derived. Only this time,
the hammer is here to stay... With the classic release of 1487 (vinyl now
a sold-out item CD available) and the The Lost Tapes, the book of
Witchhammer is continuously in creation..

The Canadians MORGUE already released at the end of 2011 their second
full-length cd which is called "Detroned" in in-house production. MORGUE play Death Metal with Black Metal influences or in reverse. Death
Metal base frames mingle with many dark melodies to independent songs.
Accentuated by effective riffs and powerful bass lines "Dethroned" makes
a lasting impression. By the distinctive growls of vocalist Goliatt is
put the final touches to the production. The all in all nine songs are very
energetic and go forwards. The deadly death roller rolls continuously like a
steamroller to the listener. Harsh and merciless straight in your face! Here
isn't made short work and experiments. By the variable use of tempi the guys
show variability and inventiveness. MORGUE play very ambitious and
involved. I can only recommend

What do musicians when only one band is not enough for them? They found a side
project! This happened with the Poles GENIUS ULTOR which released some
time ago their full-length cd "Dzien Nocy" via Ataman Productions.
After a calm, very avant-garde, minimalistic intro it gets with "Prawo Do
Wojny Moim Jest" straight down to the nitty-gritty. Pitch-black Black Metal
is now offered. The guys set thereby a mind-blowing pace. A proverbial musical
invasion which is powerful and relentless. Dark Black Metal sound frameworks are
now and and then relaxed a bit by symphonic sounds and result in a very
independent dark mixture. Severe doubleblast drum thunderstorms give the
production yet additional energy. Forceful bass lines and partially experimental
riffs cater for variety. Short breaks in instrumental and noise realms show the
bands' versatility and complexity. The all in all 17 songs are kept pretty short
which is however no consequence at this rate. The lyrics are written in Polish
language which I consider as a bonus. The screaming growls yet reinforce the
brutality. "Dzien Nocy" receives by the fast changes in speed additional
vitality. GENIUS ULTOR done here everything properly and produced a very
worth hearing cd which is experimental and at the same time reck-solid. I can
only recommend the guys!!!
