ABOUT SMSF
Born in 2010, Santa Maria Summer Fest (SMSF) has proven itself to be one of the
main festivals in the Portuguese Extreme Music Scene. Located in the small city
of Beja, the festival helps promote the extreme music culture in the vast region
of the Alentejo. It evolved from 4 bands in its first year into something much
bigger, with 19 bands being present in its 4th edition. Its first year had the
name of "Anibeja Metalfest", but on its second edition, the name was changed to
Santa Maria Summer Fest and since then it has been revealing itself to be an
excelent offer in Portugal, presenting itself each year with a vast, ecletic
choice of bands within the Metal, Rock and Punk genres, always with the bonus of
being economically available for just about everyone (with free entrance up to
its 4th edition). In 2013, Beja was full of people coming to the festival, with
the presence of bands such as DOOM (UK), PROCESS OF GUILT, VxPxOxAxAxWxAxMxC
(AT) and GWYDION, the SMSF venue was packed, especially in the day DOOM played.
The festival has no means to proit, and since its 2nd edition it has been
supporting social causes: firstly, support to local associations and secondly,
support to the Portuguese Red Cross and other social institutions. For 2014, the
SMSF Crew promises a solid, diverse and certainly extreme bill!

UM FESTIVAL QUE CHEGOU PARA FICAR!
A ‘dar cartas’ desde 2010, o Santa Maria Summer Fest (SMSF) já provou que
é um dos pontos de passagem do underground da música extrema nacional. Situado
na pequena cidade de Beja, o festival ajuda a promover este tipo de cultura na
vasta região do Alentejo. Começou no ano 2010 como nome de Anibeja Metalfest,
uma pequena edição com 4 bandas que foi bem recebida entre as pessoas da cidade,
e rapidamente cresceu para algo maior. Em 2011, o festival mudou de nome para o
actual e desde então que se tem revelado uma excelente oferta no nosso país,
apresentando a cada ano uma diversdade eclética de bandas dentro do Metal, Rock
e Punk, sempre com o bónus de ser um festival para todos (até 2013 com entrada
livre). Em 2013 a afluência foi surpreendente, com a adição de bandas como
DOOM (UK), PROCESS OF GUILT, VxPxOxAxAxWxAxMxC (AT) e GWYDION, o Anfiteatro
Exterior da Casa da Cultura de Beja esteve muito bem composto, apresentando uma
excelente moldura humana (praticamente cheio no dia em que actuaram os DOOM).
O festival não tem quaisquer fins lucrativos e apresenta uma causa social
adoptada desde a sua 2ª edição: primeiro de apoio às associações da cidade de
Beja, e em segundo lugar o apoio à Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa e a outras
instituições locais. Em 2014 a organização promete um cartaz sólido, diverso e
certamente extremo!
CULTURMAIS – A ASSOCIAÇÃO JUVENIL QUE ORGANIZA O
SMSF
Durante as suas 4 primeiras edições, o SMSF foi organizado pela Junta de
Freguesia de Santa Maria da Feira de Beja, porém, na sua 5ª edição, a
organização ficará a cargo da Associação Juvenil CulturMais, criada
propositadamente tendo em vista a continuidade do festival. A CulturMais
tem como fim a promoção e divulgação de eventos culturais, nomeadamente música,
cinema, teatro, exposições, etc., relativamente aos quais juntará uma vertente
de apoio social a diversas instituições, sendo a sua área de intervenção
predominantemente Beja, podendo contudo estender-se a outras zonas do distrito e
até do país.
O FESTIVAL DE MÚSICA PESADA ONDE A TROIKA NÃO MANDA
NADA OU O FESTIVAL ANTI-CRISE / ANTI-TROIKA – UMA REFORMULAÇÃO
Simpáticamente, os festivaleiros atribuíram estes epítetos ao festival. É pois
intenção da organização que os mesmos continuem a fazer sentido, contudo, se por
um lado se corre o risco de os apoios serem menores, por outro, a qualidade do
cartaz, bem como de tudo quanto envolve o festival, vai aumentando. Logo, os
custos acrescem. Por esses motivos, a organização fixou um preço de bilhetes
altamente competitivo e relativamente ao qual ficarão agradávelmente
surpreendidos. Estes preços serão anunciados em breve.

CULTURMAIS – THE YOUTH ASSOCIATION THAT ORGANIZES
SMSF
During its first 4 editions, SMSF was organized by the local municipality
of Santa Maria da Feira, Beja, however, on its 5th edition, the festival will be
passed onto
the CulturMais Youth Association, created in view of giving continuation
to the SMSF legacy. CulturMais has the objective of producing and
promoting cultural events, such as music, cinema, theatre, exhibitions, etc., to
which a social cause is added. Its main area of effect is Beja, however,
CulturMais also extends itself to other areas of the Alentejo region and
even of its country.
THE ANTI-CRISIS FESTIVAL – A REFORMULATION
The SMSF festival-goers have named
the event as the “Anti-Crisis Festival”, due to its free entrance policy.
It is the intention of the organization that SMSF continues to be the
“Anti-Crisis Festival”, however, on the one hand, they have the risk of the
monetary support being less every year, and on the other hand, they want to make
the festival’s quality grow bigger and bigger, so the organization has decided
to have friendly ticket prices in the 5th edition, relatively to which the
festival-goers will be satisfied. Those prices will be announced soon.
