Marking the band’s third full-length release, "Descending Into Madness" serves as a prequel to the dark and intricate story surrounding the asylum "Zornheim", its inmates and their doctors - where it is never quite clear who is truly insane.

ZORNHEYM BIOGRAPHY

ZORNHEYM was founded in Stockholm, Sweden, as an ambitious vision by its creator, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Zorn (ex-Dark Funeral), with the goal of realizing his interpretation of the ultimate concept band - a complete fusion of music, narrative, and visual storytelling. Since its inception, the band has set out to redefine the traditional "metal meets symphony" approach, developing a sound that blends cinematic orchestration with a powerful heavy metal backbone and strong influences from melodic death metal, all driven by a distinct sense for epic, memorable melodies.

At the core of ZORNHEYM lies a dark and expanding narrative universe. Each album unfolds within the walls of the mental asylum Zornheim - a place shrouded in mystery, madness, and horror - where the institution itself becomes the central character. Across releases, the band explores different eras of its sinister history through layered storytelling, recurring themes, and hidden connections. This concept was introduced on their debut album "Where Hatred Dwells and Darkness Reigns" (2017) and further expanded on the critically acclaimed "The Zornheim Sleep Experiment" (2021), followed by the acoustic EP "The Forgotten Inmates" (2023), which completed the first chapter of the asylum’s story.

ZORNHEYM’s artistic vision extends far beyond music. Their albums are accompanied by detailed visual concepts and graphic novels, bringing the asylum and its inmates to life in another dimension, while their music videos are produced as short films that further immerse the audience in the band’s universe.

On stage, ZORNHEYM transforms into a theatrical experience led by frontman Bendler, whose commanding presence draws the audience deep into the asylum’s grip. On special occasions, actors become part of the performance, elevating the show beyond a traditional concert into a dark and immersive spectacle.

The opening track from our upcoming album “Descending Into Madness” is now available on all major streaming platforms.

Zorn comments:
“We knew we wanted a fast, heavy-hitting epic as the opener for "Descending Into Madness", says mastermind Zorn. “The first idea that came to mind was an unreleased Devian song that was originally written for the third album. So this track is co-written with Emil Dragutinovic (ex-Marduk, ex-DEVIAN, ex-The Legion). It started from his original idea, blended with some of mine. We kept the core spirit of it but fully ‘Zornheymified’ the song - I wrote new parts, and Scucca added the choir break. The result absolutely rips.”
He continues: “From a story perspective, this song serves as the prologue to the entire prequel. It takes us back to a time when the asylum functioned as a field hospital during the Thirty Years’ War, and to the dreadful night when a group of deserters were brutally executed by the shores of Sêlasee (the lake near the asylum) and hanged from the old oak. It also briefly touches on the period when the place served as a sanatorium for the dying.”

ZORNHEYM - ANNOUNCE THE NEW DRUMMER QUAL!

Sweden's symphonic extreme metallers ZORNHEYM have just announced that they parted ways with drummer Joakim Steven and announced their new drummer Qual!

The band comments "Joakim Steven has been very busy performing live with “Ghostkid” for the last few years, and with our new album in the works and several gigs in the future we are saddened to face the reality that Steve needs to be released from the asylum so he can focus on “Ghost Kid”. If you are into Steve’s playing then fear not since he has recorded all the drum parts for the next, as yet untitled, Zornheym opus 3. There is no bad blood between Steve and Zornheym, but unfortunately there simply is not enough time and too many conflicting schedules for both bands to share him."

Steve comments: "Zornheym has been a big part of my life ever since I joined in 2017. We have been through alot and the memories we share will forever live in my heart. Being part of this project has been an honour and we’ve grown together as people and as artists.
I wish all the best for the band and I still believe in it, and I’m super excited to show you the new album as it will be the best one yet. So stay tuned and be ready for the gates to open once again… Long live Zornheym!"

Let us introduce you to the new drummer of ZORNHEYM Kim Arnell aka, Qual! Hailing from Linköping where he has played in bands like Prime Creation, Morifade and Nephenzy.

Qual comments: ”I‘m extremely happy and proud to be a part of Zornheym and their crazy world.
I have always been a fan of their cool mix of extreme metal, symphonic elements, good songwriting, and Bendler’s fantastic voice.
And of course the whole Zornheym concept.
I’d like to say a huge thanks to Zorn, Bendler, and Scucca for believing in me and taking me on this journey. And to all inmates of Zornheym, see you at the shows"

Zorn comments: “It felt natural with Qual right from the start! Filling the drum throne after both Angst and Steve is not an easy thing but he does a great job.”

First show with Qual will be at METAL THEATRE FESTIVAL 2024 in Kalmar, Sweden on the 5-6 of July.

THERION announce new rock opera and European tour for 2018
When 15 year old prodigy Christofer Johnsson founded THERION as a death metal band in 1987, little did he know that exactly 30 years later he would put the final touches to a project that will go down in history as symphonic metal’s most ambitious release. While ‘metal operas’ are no longer an unusual creation, this term will forever receive a new meaning on January 26th, 2018, when the curtain opens for Johnsson’s lifelong creation: »Beloved Antichrist« is the title of his spectacular brainchild, consisting of 3 full-length CDs and is more than just a concept album, but a complete rock opera with multiple chapters, unveiling a sweeping story partly based on and inspired by Vladímir Soloviov "A Short Tale Of The Antichrist".

With an incredible total of 29 different roles and characters, whoall required a unique voice, THERION hired not only a big choir, but also 29 vocalists to bring the epic story to life. With long-time collaborators like Thomas Vikström, Lori Lewis and Chiara Malvestiti, fans will hear the classical THERION vibe but also be able to drown in a magical maelstrom of many new as well as familiar voices.

Divided into several chapters, the opera reaches a full length of 3 and a half hours and THERION are currently working on the possibility of bringing the entire production to the stage. And while this monumental undertaking still simmers away in the Swedish production halls, the band has announced a pan-European tour where they will perform some of their new masterpieces live in a classical concert setting. Support comes from Russia’s symphonic metallists IMPERIAL AGE and Germany's NULL POSITIV.
Don't miss this new milestone in the history of symphonic metal and witness this dramatic staging of the apocalypse and all those brave, sinister and fascinating characters heading towards the end of it all. "The world of metal would not be the same without THERION", wrote UK's Iron Fist Magazine in 2014 and one thing is for sure: After the unleashing of »Beloved Antichrist« in 2018, it never will be again.
