Cathartic black metal outfit GAEREA have just announced details about their new album "Coma" scheduled to be released on the 25th of October 2024 via Season of Mist!

GAEREA arrived shrouded in mystery. The masked sensations emerged from pandemic limbo with a vision for black metal that was guided not by myths or pagan beliefs but a purging of emotion. Existential dread still pulses through the Portuguese band's blood, but their upcoming fourth album signals a shift in psychology.

With "Coma",GAEREA are no longer strictly a black metal band. Instead, they're breaking to the forefront of extreme metal. Though their new album was produced by trusted confidant Miguel Tereso, it broadens the band's signature sound by taking it in two seemingly opposed directions. There are more moments of intense beauty, but they only heighten the ensuing blows.

The world may be as hopeless as the album's lead single declares. But with "Coma", GAEREA have returned to prove that they are only the band who can guide us into the darkness.

Behind black shrouds of obscurity and desolation, the performers of GAEREA deliver their odes in cascading maelstroms of aggression and beauty. Emerging from the age of pandemic to whatever awaits humanity next, the dark horde remains on the frontlines of the next generation of extreme metal. With an EP and three albums to their name, GAEREA has rapidly distinguished themselves from the thousands of bands toiling away in the underground. Brewing their cauldron of sound from a recipe of pounding black-metal blast mixed with a touch of harrowed, reflective longing, many devotees of the darkened arts have flocked to their banner. With the emergence of third full-length album Mirage, those numbers certainly grew.

GAEREA met a challenge when releasing their second album during the pandemic, the aptly titled Limbo, to excellent world reception. In the meantime, they found the total suspension of interactive life as it was previously known to be the perfect breeding ground for further creation and making.

Sizzling with ambition from day one, GAEREA may present one unique face to their audience, masked and enshrouded, but the truth is they have not remained changeless.

As their previous album name Mirage suggests, the inability to trust what our senses are telling us could be construed as one of the album’s central themes. Rather than constrict their art to mythological references or anti-religious tropes, GAEREA instead plumb the depths of the human experiences of isolation and suffering.

Just two years since Mirage was released, GAEREA is here, erupting with intensity, casting forth black ashes over the world yet again.

Their latest release, Coma, has finally surfaced, marking a pivotal shift. From this point forward, everything changes. It's time for GAEREA to bridge the gap between underground metal and the elevated realm they've attained. With Coma, GAEREA emerges from the underground scene, ascending towards a permanently lasting position at the head of the table.

An emotional gateway to a dark black metal scene, a guide to salvation, pain, despair and letting go. Moving up, into the blackness that is above. GAEREA is the answer, the only answer.

Within "Coma's" ten tracks lies an individual narrative, each with its own tale to unveil. Collectively, they blend nuances of aggression, tranquility, solitude, and fervor.

Boasting a superior production that threads the needle between caustic and clarity, GAEREA yet again admit their loyalty to producer Miguel Tereso of Demigod Recordings for the production of Coma. Together they created the birth of "Coma", the new era for metal mankind. Distinguishing themselves ever more so, the Vortex handpicked their artist Nathan Lorenzana with a clear assignment to create their mesmerizing cover artwork. Months of hand drawing the image with a ballpen lead to this masterpiece which dipped his name into ‘Coma’.

The beauty of GAEREA lies in the directness and simplicity found within their florid tapestry of extremity and aggression. Whether it is in the less-polished aural dynamite of Mirage, or in the lustrous textures of Coma, GAEREA is building a mighty edifice of metal. Behind black shrouds of obscurity and desolation, the men of GAEREA deliver their odes in cascading maelstroms of aggression and beauty. Emerging from the age of pandemic to whatever awaits humanity next, the Portuguese horde remains on the frontlines of the next generation of extreme metal. With an EP and two albums to their name, GAEREA has rapidly distinguished themselves from the thousands of bands toiling away in the underground. Brewing their cauldron of sound from a recipe of pounding black-metal blast mixed with a touch of harrowed, reflective longing, many devotees of the darkened arts have flocked to their banner. With the emergence of third full-length album Mirage, those numbers are sure to grow.

Underground metal itself is a strange and cyclical beast. Trends come and trends go. But at no point in the genres history have we borne witness to what happened to the world in 2020. GAEREA met this challenge by releasing their second album, the aptly titled "Limbo", to excellent world reception. In the meantime, they found the total suspension of interactive life as it was previously known to be the perfect breeding ground for further creation and making. As the troupes main songwriter elaborates, "I lost two precious years of my life, years that I would rather have spent touring and growing as an artist. But they were crucial for us, these years, because not too many bands stayed relevant and productive. The pandemic gave us the time to make the best release we could. All the promo-shoots, interviews, videos, we all had time to prepare for everything. Mirage was the product of a sudden inspiration. The basic parts were written over about two weeks."

Such a stunning admission goes to show that art is fickle, and the artist is merely a vessel through which the sweet sorcery we call music may flow. It can mute itself to frustrating silence or it can explode into being regardless of all consideration. For this band on the rise, it is most certainly the latter. Sizzling with ambition from day one, GAEREA may present one unique face to their audience, masked and enshrouded, but the truth is they have not remained changeless. "We are not the same band who recorded Limbo," he insists. "We are more eager to take on the world. If the pandemic taught us anything it is that nothing is certain."

This lack of certainty plays heavily into newest creation Mirage. As its name suggests, the inability to trust what our senses are telling us could be construed as one of the albums central themes. Rather than constrict their art to mythological references or anti-religious tropes, GAEREA instead plumb the depths of the human experiences of isolation and suffering. "The concept, the subject, of each song is everyone, you, me . . . if people were alone together in Limbo, in Mirage they are truly alone. Nobody is truly real until they are alone."

If existential dread could be turned into sound, GAEREA have carved their own philosophical path through its stygian tunnels. It isnt Satan, demons, death, or even suicide that is waiting for us there. "What if people finally reached their goal," he posits, "to end their suffering, and instead of dying they find themselves in a new reality, lost in a big city they were once a part of they dont know if anyone else is still alive. They are alone inside their own world." This theme of being alone in a world full of familiar scenes, unable to end things and unable to reach anyone else, might well terrify the listener more effectively than any glimpse into the imagined hellscapes of our nightmares. Being isolated in your own world is the real nightmare, and GAEREA strum the chords of this horror with nuance and a miserable grace.

Boasting a superior production that threads the needle between clarity and causticness, GAEREA unwaveringly admit their loyalty to countryman and producer Miguel Tereso of Demigod Recordings. "Miguel is fantastic," enthuses the bands primary composer. "He comes from a brutal death metal background. I thought if this guy can pull off a punchy, modern, but still authentic production with a slam / death metal band, I wonder what he can do with a band like Demigod Recordings. He has a vision for a sound, and that is what I really like. He is not a black metal fan, but its this very external set of ears and eyes from a guy who really knows his craft, and he brings all of that to our sound." The fruits of this union are quite evident, as the turbulent moods of the title track are so wonderfully tossed between tension-building moments, and the explosive payoffs which set GAEREA apart from so many who try but come up short.

Tormented leads and building riffs sit atop some seriously explosive drumming, waxing and waning, on "Arson," a tempest of moods and one of the albums centrepieces. Emotion, at times sounding triumphant in brilliantly wrought guitar leads, is skewered by vocals that bustle with shattering despair. The dichotomy is magnificent to behold. GAEREAs composer makes no mistake. "I want to hear the throat on the album, and if we are a vocals-driven band, I dont want to over-process them during the recording. Striking that balance is one of the beauties for me in this record."

In a world that increasingly elevates the shallow and the narcissistic, GAEREA pursues an artistic struggle of inward isolation, honest self-examination, and a dogged refusal to bow to the void that awaits. Thus, the persistence of their shadowed visages, draped in the masks which codify their anonymity while also creating a reliable extreme metal brand that fans can appreciate, especially in the live setting. "GAEREA are truly ourselves when we put these masks on, and we transcend into something different, and primitive," he asserts. "It still makes total sense, and this band would not be a band anymore if we ever dropped the masks."

As GAEREA prepares the release of Mirage, the world has resumed functioning, and as it lurches onward into its bleak future, one could stipulate that the pressure may be on to continue its rise amid the clamor of this renewal of activity. Does this challenge intimidate GAEREA? "We want to do better, but I dont feel any pressure because we are in very good hands with the people we work with. We are building a strong team that really cares for us, stage-wise, promotional-wise, website and sales-wise. We are building a very structured confident teams that aims for the same goals we do. What I truly care about is continuing our ever-growing concept of the band GAEREA, and not becoming sterile, and I would not want people to be unaffected by our music. In the end were trying to express something within ourselves, and I dont want it to be too complicated."

The beauty of GAEREA lies in the directness and simplicity found within their florid tapestry of extremity and aggression. Whether it is in the less-polished aural dynamite of their self-titled EP, or in the lustrous textures of Mirage, GAEREA is building a mighty edifice of underground metal. "RUGIA"  DETAILS:

No one combines death and black metal quite like Poland's HATE. With unflinching viciousness and a sense of atmosphere unique to the band, on Rugia, their twelfth full-length, they push the boundaries of their craft even further. "t was clear to me that it should build upon and evolve from our previous record, "Auric Gates Of Veles" (2019), both musically and lyrically. However, every Hate record stands as a separate journey, and never twice to the same place. You never know exactly where it will lead you" states vocalist/guitarist ATF Sinner, who has led the band since 1991. Fresh blood in the band's line-up also helped contribute to Rugia's unique sound. Pavulon (drums), who had played with the band since 2014, was forced to step down from the band due to serious health issues. The band tapped Nar-Sil (Neolith, Virgin Snatch, Embrional) to take his place. "Working with a new drummer this time around was a fascinating experience for me. Nar-Sil's technique and presence are quite different from Pavulon's, and that definitely comes across. I believe we managed to construct a refreshing new chapter to our discography, composing nine truly sinister onslaughts of pure rage."

The band elected to once again track the album in the Hertz Recording Studio in Poland, and it was recorded, mixed and mastered by the Wieslaski Brothers (Behemoth, Decapitated). Everything was laid down over about two to three weeks, with longtime collaborator Michal Staczkun providing the ambient elements of the band's sound. The only struggle came about at the mixing stage, where the final character of the record emerges. "Here we encountered many problems, contradictory visions too. The producers had their own idea for the overall sound, which differed from what I had in mind, so we were trying to find a good compromise and it took us a few months. "Given how strongly the personality of the record shines through, it is safe to say that the compromise reached was definitely in its best interest, standing as perhaps the best sounding record in the band's long career. Hate is also celebrating thirty years of activity with Rugia, Sinner affirming he is as driven as ever. "Well, the fire is still burning! I'm proud that I have built a band with such strong energy, that's lasted for a long time in spite of numerous line-up changes and obstacles in our way. We are still here and we create with ever growing consciousness and dedication. The energy speaks through us. Honestly, I think of the band as something much bigger and more profound than the individual people involved in it over any given period of time. I believe we create a channel for energies that surpass us."

WORMWOOD are one of the leading bands on the Swedish metal scene right now! The band follows up on the highly acclaimed "Nattarvet" which had the band soaring to the national charts and nominated for several awards. Their third offering "Arkivet" follows on the heels of this success and is a conceptually themed album about humanity's destructive force, the inability to adapt to our nature and our inevitable and well-deserved death.

Alongside the album release, a cinematic music video was created. "The Archive" follows the desperation after an unprecedented catastrophe in Sweden.

The new album will be released on the 27th of August 2021 by the label Black Lodge Records.

The Swedish melodic folk/black metal-band WORMWOOD releases three new bonus tracks on the Deluxe Edition of "Arkivet" including covers of Nick Cave's "The Weeping Song" and Loreena McKennitt's "Caravanserai". Available for streaming now.

The band comments on the bonus tracks:
"The reason why we picked Shipwrecked and Northbound was because most of our listeners haven't heard our first EP 'The Void: Stories From the Whispering Well'. It was a time of experimentation and getting to know each other's style.
We picked this song specifically because it had fragments of that sound that we wanted to pursue. That sound led to the creation of Ghostlands.
Now - years later we decided to re-make it with the knowledge, possibilities and skills we lacked back then. It's a homage to the old and new.

The two covers on this deluxe edition were picked because they meant something deeply for some members in the band.
Most people know Nick Cave and his mastery of words and music, but fewer know about the enchanting Loreena McKennitt.
With our style and vision we created these two covers in respect to their virtuosity but with our own twist!"

Music wise "Postmortem Whispering Crows" simply continues where "The I" left off. Having introduced some rock-like solos on the latest full-length these unreleased tracks seem to be characterized by even more open approach to the genre. "Postmortem Whispering Crows" is an epic journey across black death metal with the band's own, unique flare to it.

"One of my all-time greatest inspirations has always been literature of The Young Poland (a modernist period in Polish literature, covering roughly the years between 1890 and 1918). The movement promoted trends of decadence, neo-romanticism, symbolism, catastrophism and impressionism. Having quoted "Dzieci Szatana" (Satans Kinder) by one of the period visionary Stanisław Przybyszewski within the lyrics of our "Adventvs" EP, its been a logical way for me to immerse both "The I" and "Postmortem Whispering Crows" EP even deeper into the decadent world of other haunted figures associated with the philosophy of their leader. The quoted authors following the period concept believed in decadence, an end of all culture, the conflict between humans and their civilization, and the concept of art as the highest value."

"We Are Diabolical" is a song that sounds just as daunting as the title suggests. "THE LYRICIST" DETAILS:

"The Lyricist" will arrive nearly nine years to the day its predecessor ("Attitude", 2009) came out. Its release has been scheduled for the 16th of March on Agonia Records. The album is available for pre-ordering HERE.

The origins of SUSPERIA can be traced back to 1998 when Tjodalv, then occupying the drum seat with Dimmu Borgir, and long-time friend Cyrus (ex-Satyricon, Old Man's Child) got together to share ideas and write songs. Clearly rooted and seasoned in the Norwegian black metal scene, SUSPERIA elevated its sound into more melodic areas of extreme metal, embracing and exploring a variety of musical avenues with ease.

On "The Lyricist", SUSPERIA has gone back to its black origin in many ways, one of which is a more grimmer expression. The characteristic melodic twist the band is known for is still present, and an additional layer of variety has been added thanks to new vocalist, Bernt 'Dagon' Fjellestad (whose stage debut with the band was made at last year's 70000 Tons Of Metal Festival). From SUSPERIA's pragmatic point of view, the new album is a "good old-fashioned kick in the head, both old and new fans should find enjoyable".

"The Lyricist" was recorded at three different studios in Norway between February 2015 and May 2016. The album was later mixed and mastered at Strand Studio (Chrome Division, The Wretched End, In Vain) by Marius Strand. Cover design and artwork was prepared by Vincent Fouquet. New band photos were shot by Espen Bakken.

Hailing from Poland, the epic black / death metallers of DEVILISH IMPRESSIONS will release their new album, "The I" on September 22nd, 2017 via Lifeforce Records. The album will be available as CD digipak, limited vinyl LP and digital download.

Recorded at various studios, including Dobra 12 Studio (drums) and Icaros Studio (guitars) the disc was mixed and mastered at Impressive-Art Studio by Przemyslaw Nowak who also handled vocals recording sessions and guitars re-amping. The albums artwork, design and layout were created by Infected Minds. Photo session by Robert Zembrzycki and Pawel Kowalski of BandPhoto

The album features special guest appearances by MERCYFUL FATE / KING DIAMONDs guitarist Mike Wead and by Norways dark metal masters AETERNUS vocalist / guitarist Ares. Other artists who also contributed to the record are shamanic ritual meditative experimental act BÖN and Impressive-Art Studio's owner PRZEMYSLAW NOWAK who came up with interludes, additional background tunes and effects.

"Its been a really long way to be finally able to wrap it all up, countless nights spent on writing the music and lyrics first, then working on the albums pre-production, followed by what seemed to be never-ending, proper recording sessions, and tones of work that had to be done for the band afterwards. We really wanted this new album to become something really special and therefore, to avoid any haphazard decisions, we let them come out of us smoothly, without putting ourselves under any external tension and stuff. Did it pay off? Well, well see! We surely worked our asses off, pushed things back and forth to get the best out of it. As a result weve got something we are damn proud of, something that we believe surpasses on all possible levels everything weve done in the past. I simply believe we have outdone ourselves and recorded something that will cause your hearts beat faster" comments Quazarre, the bands composer, vocalist and guitarist.

The title chosen, "The I", for the record is not only a phonetic acronym of the bands name, but above all it reflects the manifesto they stand for since the Hordes inception in the year 2000 the notion of freedom of choice and will. A supremacy of an individual over any external factors being imposed on us by others, with special emphasis on religion and its convictions, dogmas and paradigms. "The I" is a rebellious manifesto targeted against all those who stand opposed to anything that drives us towards individual perfection.
