Without a doubt this is one of the best releases of 2011 so far, it's a great step forwards from "Divinity" debut and an outstanding second part of their trilogy, now with Mesoamerican civilizations as background scenario, from their "cult of blood" and legends to the invasion of the Christian enslaving hordes! An Apocalyptic, darker, faster, harder release once we compare with their previous work, a remarkable piece of extreme metal in a top elite level! Hymns of life and death in a blackened death metal way, a ritual not to be missed by any extreme metal worshipers. "Oblivion" is an highlight for this Spanish riders of apocalyptic destruction that will catch your ears since first listening!

Noctem are a well-developed and impressive blackened death metal band from Valencia - Spanish lands since 2001. Their musical art has defined ideals, based on the antithesis of the whole absurd human religions, misanthropy and cult of the former civilizations, violence, destruction and death. This band has been impressing metal media, labels, bands, agencies and crowds across the globe. This allowed them to tour with bands like Samael, Hate, Incantation, Gorgoroth, and more. Their mature skilled sound and image has given them a special aura and identity. Three outstanding metal video-clips supported their strong visual image and cult ideals. "Oblivion" is a darker, faster, louder and harder second piece of Noctem trilogy. Once we compare it with the debut release "Divinity" this new release presents a more mature, solid, darkly brutal sound, an outstanding step forwards in their promising career.

In this "Oblivion" album Noctem are unleashing pure extreme metal wrath in a deeper darkest formula. A metal elite sound comparable to colossus like Dark Funeral, Behemoth, Dimmu Borgir, Nile, Aborted, Cradle of Filth, Morbid Angel just to name few, still they are a young band but with a damn mature "know-how"! Their obscure black metal spice and brutal ear-piercing death metal has been upgraded to a top level now with Mesoamerican civilizations to serve as musical background and concept, this, especially the Maya illuminated ones!
On "Oblivion" the band explores their skills to the limit and creates an Apocalyptic Metal pestilent beast, so solid as obscure that will take you deep into the times of this forgotten legendary civilisations who feed the Earth with undying wisdom as well as human sacrificial blood until they fallen into oblivion! 

The production of "Oblivion" is a masterpiece from Ultrasound studios 2 in Moita, Setubal (Portugal) by Daniel Cardoso (Anathema, Ava Inferi, Anneke Vangiersbergen…). A quite clean sound that conserves the darkest essence of the band, I was impressed to hear such elite quality from Southern European lands studios. The created powerful sound-wall, couldn't fit better this cataclysmic warmageddon, simply the right balance of darkness and hardness in a illuminated fatal formula!
Noctem sound has been updated into a refined blend of extreme metal, uniform and faster. The wise use of keyboards, the interludes, cult lyricism, the atmospheric created ambient blend perfectly with the bands brutal, hard sound. "Oblivion" shows this dark offspring of musical geniality. The delightful leads and solos my Exo, the beast-alike vocals and wise lyricism by Beleth, the savagely versatile drums of Darko, the pounding deep bass by UI and the hell-spawn rhythm by Helion detaches Noctem from today's Metal monotony.

"Oblivion" takes you back to the ancient times of the Mesoamerican cultures with special focus on the Maya. A Wise and illuminated civilization of man, some of the most developed of those times, cursed to fall like many others, deep into the power-thirsty blinding light of the false gods (Spanish Conquistadores) who enslaved Yukatan lands and beyond. Noctem strongly criticize the barbarity that occurred during the colonization of those lands by the men of the Christian faith, who imposed, by force, their costumes to their slaving conquered Mesoamerican people!
Still the band explores themes like the "cult of blood", the low value of human life and decay of our mortal soul. In every civilization downfall you have a dark age rising, before being converted to Christianism the Mayan often practiced human sacrifices to feed the gods needs in hope for better times, but this only fed the soils with human decay and nothing else but pestilence!
The cover artwork is another perfect fit to this opus, outstanding creation in a dark, sinister, occult Mesoamerican inspired way, done by the well-known Brazilian designer Marcelo Vasco (Dimmu Borgir, Dark Funeral, Satyricon, Belphegor, Gorgoroth and more).

In such an outstanding opus it's always hard to find best tracks, from the Mesoamerican apocalyptic-like epic intro "Popol Vuh" the listeners are pierced with the mighty bloodthirsty wrath of "The arrival of the false gods" an highlight on this release, followed by "Universal disorder" where the wheel of life and death turns in a dark journey till the final Armageddon of Mankind. With a death-cult atmosphere "Abnegation and brutality" bring you some melodic middle-eastern influenced spice, quickly followed by the heart-piercing fast track "Invictus" a hymn to ancient prophecies and visions of world Armageddon! Dark virulent and dead rotten came the "Sons of Hun-vucub" born between worms and grime. Marching on, the Christian invaders are "Seeking the ruin of souls" of the enslaved Mesoamerican people! It's time for the "Unredemption", another highlight of this release, melodic and brutal in a damn ear-catching way. Keep your soul free, no one can take that away from you!
"Q'uma'rka'aa'j" darkly enchanted battle-hymn introduces "A borning Winged Snake" from which life and death emanates from, an outstanding pitch-black venomous tune that leads to "Oblivion" the ending apocalyptic track. Here you can hear the moans of a dying civilisation, enslaved by Christian religious plagues! Silenced ancient civilisations begin to rise once again, for their might is eternal. This track brings you that conscience in a wise musical-Armageddon!

In all Noctem "Oblivion" is one of the best albums I heard in some time, their skills and talent brought them to an absolute new level, a level that took ages for other bands to reach. They bring their listeners to a world that has been neglected and lost into oblivion, even in the metal universe. They awaken a beast of epic proportions and make you get thirsty for more of this ancient wisdom. Blackened death metal elite sound from southern European lands in the most aggressive, dark format. Makes you to hunger for their next releases! High quality sound with Mesoamerican wisdom, legendary cults and tales to be told once again in form of musical Apocalypse! A "must-have" release to every blackened death metal fan! Civilizations rise to fall deep in their own fabricated decadence, as they fall a new one rises, cursed to fall again in this wheel of time, it's the vicious circle of Life and Death... the cursed downfall of Mankind into the oblivion!

Sin lugar a dudas, este es uno de los mejores lanzamientos del 2011 hasta ahora, es un gran paso adelante del  debut "Divinity", una sorprendente segunda parte de su trilogía, ahora con las civilizaciones Mesoamericanas como escenario de fondo, desde su “culto de sangre” y leyendas hasta la invasión de las hordas de las esclavitud cristiana! Un lanzamiento apocalíptico, más oscuro, más rápido y más duro una vez que lo comparamos con su trabajo previo, una notable pieza de metal extremo en un nivel de élite superior! Himnos de vida y muerte en forma de blackened death metal, un ritual que no deben perderse los adoradores del metal extremo. "Oblivion" es el punto culminante para estos jinetes Españoles de la destrucción apocalíptica que atrapará tus oidos desde la primera vez que escuches!

Noctem es una banda bastante impresionante y bien desarrollada de blackened death metal de las tierras Españolas de Valencia desde 2001. Su arte musical ha definido ideales, basados en la antitesis de las absurdas religiones humanas, la misantropía y el culto a las antiguas civilizaciones, la violencia, la destrucción y la muerte. Esta banda ha sido impresionante para los medios del metal, sellos, bandas, agencias y  para las multitudes en todo el mundo. Esto les ha permitido salir de gira con bandas como Samael, Hate, Incantation, Gorgoroth y más. Su sonido e imagen maduros y diestros les han dado una identidad y aura especiales. Tres excelentes videoclips han apoyado su fuerte imagen visual e ideales de culto. "Oblivion" es la segunda pieza más oscura, más rápida, más fuerte de la trilogía de Noctem. Una vez que la comparamos con el álbum debut "Divinity", este nuevo material nos presenta un sonido más maduro, sólido y oscuramente brutal, un imponente paso adelante en su prometedora carrera.

En el álbum "Oblivion", Noctem están desatando la ira de puro metal extremo en una fórmula más profunda y oscura. Un sonido de metal de elite comparable con colosos como Dark Funeral, Behemoth, Dimmu Borgir, Nile, Aborted, Cradle of Filth, Morbid Angel, solo por mencionar algunos, aún son una banda joven pero con un conocimiento práctico bastante maduro! Su oscuro condimento de black metal y el brutal y punzante death metal se han actualizado a un nivel superior ahora con las civilizaciones Mesoamericanas para servir como fondo musical y concepto, este, en especial los iluminados Mayas!
En "Oblivion" la banda explora sus habilidades al límite y crea una bestia de Metal Apocalíptico y pestilente, tan sólida como oscura que te llevará a lo profundo de los tiempos de esta olvidada y legendaria  civilización que alimentó a la Tierra con la sabiduría inmortal así como con la sangre de los sacrificios humanos hasta que cayó en el olvido!

La producción del "Oblivion" es una obra maestra de los Ultrasound studios 2 en Moita, Setubal (Portugal) por Daniel Cardoso (Anathema, Ava Inferi, Anneke Vangiersbergen…). Un sonido bastante limpio que conserva la oscura esencia de la banda, quedé impresionado al escuchar tal calidad de los estudios del sur de Europa. La creación de la poderosa barrera de sonido no podría encajar mejor en este cataclismo del armagedón, simplemente, el balance correcto de oscuridad y dureza en una fómula fatal!
El sonido de Noctem se ha actualizado en una refinada mezcla de metal extremo, uniforme y rápido. El acertado uso de teclados, los interludios, el liricismo culto, el atmosférico ambiente creado se mezcla perfectamente con el sonido duro y brutal de la banda. "Oblivion" nos muestra este oscuro engendro de la genialidad musical. Los exquisitos leads y solos por Exo, las bestiales voces y el sabio lirismo de parte de Beleth, la batería salvajemente versátil de Darko, el triturador bajo de UI y los ritmos infernales de Helion, apartan a Noctem de la monotonía del Metal de hoy en día.

"Oblivion" te lleva de vuelta a los tiempos antiguos de las culturas Mesoamericanas, con especial atención en la cultura Maya. Una civilización Sabia e Iluminada, una de las más desarrolladas de esa época, condenados a caer, como muchos otros, dentro del sediento poder de la luz cegadora de los falsos dioses (los Conquistadores Españoles)  quienes esclavizaron las tierras de Yucatán y más allá. Noctem critica fuertemente la barbarie que se produjo durante la colonización de esas tierras en nombre de la fe cristiana, que se impuso por la fuerza con sus costumbres esclavizando y conquistando a los pueblos Mesoamericanos!
Sin embargo, la banda explora temas como el “culto a la sangre”, el bajo valor de la vida humana y la decadencia de nuestra alma mortal. En cada caída de las civilizaciones se tiene una creciente edad oscura, antes de convertirse al cristianismo, los Mayas a menudo practicaban los sacrificios humanos para alimentar las necesidades de los Dioses con la esperanza de tiempos mejores, pero esto solamente sirvió para alimentar a la tierra con la decadencia humana y nada más que la peste!
La portada es otro ajuste perfecto para esta obra, una sobresaliente creación en una forma oscura y siniestra, inspirada en el ocultismo Mesoamericano, realizada por el bien conocido diseñador Brasileño Marcelo Vasco (Dimmu Borgir, Dark Funeral, Satyricon, Belphegor, Gorgoroth y más).

En una obra tan sorprendente siempre es difícil encontrar los mejores tracks, desde el grandioso intro Mesoamericano "Popol Vuh", los escuchas son perforados con la ira sanguinaria y poderosa de "The arrival of the false gods" un punto culminante en este lanzamiento, seguido por "Universal disorder" donde la rueda de la vida y la muerte se convierte en un oscuro viaje hasta el Armagedón final de la Humanidad. Con una atmósfera del culto a la muerte, "Abnegation and brutality" te ofrece un ‘condimento’ melódico influenciado por el medio oriente, rápidamente seguido por el punzante y veloz track "Invictus", un himno a las antiguas profecías y visiones del Armagedón Mundial! De las tinieblas virulentas y muertos podridos llegan los “Hijos de Hum-vucub” (en inglés original "Sons of Hun-vucub") nacidos entre los gusanos y la suciedad. Marchando, los invasores cristianos están “Buscando la ruina de las almas” (en inglés "Seeking the ruin of souls") de los esclavizados pueblos Mesoamericanos! Llega la hora de "Unredemption", otro punto destacado de este material, melódico y brutal en una forma malditamente pegajosa. Manten tu alma libre, nadie te la puede quitar!
"Q'uma'rka'aa'j" un himno de batalla misteriosamente encantado presenta: "A borning Winged Snake" de la que emana la vida y la muerte, un tono destacado, negro y venenoso que te conduce a "Oblivion", el apocalíptico track del final. Aquí puedes escuchar los gemidos de una civilización agonizante, esclavizado por las plagas religiosas de los criatianos! Las antiguas civilizaciones silenciadas comienzan a elevarse una vez más, por su poder eterno. Este track te produce esa conciencia en un acertado Armagedón musical!

Todo el "Oblivion" de Noctem es uno de los mejores discos que he escuchado en mucho tiempo, sus habilidades y talento los llevaron a un nivel absolutamente nuevo, un nivel que a otra bandas les llevó años alcanzar. Ellos llevan a sus escuchas a un mundo que ha estado descuidado y perdido en el olvido, incluso en el universo del metal. Ellos han despertado a una bestia de proporciones épicas y hacen que estés sediento de más de esta antigua sabiduría. Un sonido Blackened death metal de élite desde el sur de las tierras Europeas en el formato más agresivo y oscuro. Te hace tener hambre de sus póximos lanzamientos! Sonido de alta calidad con la sabiduría Mesoamericana, cultos legendarios e historias para ser contadas una vez más en forma de Apocalipsis musical! Un material necesario para todos los fans del blackened death metal!
