Devilish Impressions are considered as one of Poland’s leading and most innovative modern black/death metal acts. Devilish Impressions officially started in 2000 as a three-piece, with founding singer / guitarist Quazarre remaining as the only member of the original line-up. Since then the band has always been developing their sound into something unique and own, with "Diabolicanos, Act III...",the bands previous release, captured already the worldwide attention of fans and media with their "modern black death metal" sound, this has allowed them to tour with metal colossus such as Behemoth, Hate, Vader, Suffocation and more! Yet with this new opus, Devilish Impressions shall achieve allot more, for their sound is at the top of what is being done on Polish extreme metal elite (Vader, Behemoth, Hate, Decapitated), when you listen to "Simulacra" you will understand what I mean here, simply outstanding, modern extreme metal art with all the right spice to make these new piece become one of the best 2012 albums of the genre!
When we compare "Simulacra" (the bands 4th opus) with the previous releases I can only state that Devilish Impressions are better than ever and have conquered all with these new outstanding Luciferian dark sound, they developed their musical art and brought it to an absolute new level, this with special highlight to all the amazing spine-chilling orchestrations and musical structures, delicate but yet so powerful and dynamic, a piece of art made from musical geniality!
"Simulacra" shows itself to the listeners as a top extreme metal release, the best work ever from Devilish Impressions to the date. The heart-felt melodies, the haunting colossal orchestrations, the warm hallow romantic touch here and there, transcendent and epic mystical aura, defiant and eloquent lyricism, how complete and dynamic can this album be!? A magic potion of extreme metal with a bit of everything into, an epic trip on a ocean of creativity and geniality. As grandiose as other masterpieces in extreme metal created by other Metal Titans! As symphonic epic as Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, Vesania or Septic Flesh as brutal as Behemoth, Vader or Arkhon Infaustus as melancholic as Katatonia or Opeth, as darkly romantic as Cradle of Filth, Moonspell or Ancient as astral as Limbonic Art or Crionics ... yet as unique as Devilish Impressions!
The POLISHed production and recordings of "Simulacra" mostly done on the famous Hertz Studios by Devilish Impressions and Slawek & Wojtek Wieslawscy (Vader,Behemoth,Crionics, Decapitated, etc.) as well as the mixing and mastering are simply another piece of art to come out of such outstanding studios, as clean as majestic as it could be, a perfect fit to these Devilish album.
The album comes as a 3-winged digipack along with 16-pages booklet, all with amazing cover, layout and design done by Michal ‘Xaay’ Loranc (Nile, Vader, Behemoth, Necorphagist etc.). A perfect match to all the lyrical concept of the album, the chess "king" Lucifer pieces on the board serve as an philosophic theme across all these release. The eternal dichotomy, since the cradle to the grave, between good and evil... an ode to the rebel angel Lucifer.
The lyrics written, in the majority, by Quazzare with the bright use of quotations of artists like Oscar Wilde, Dante, William Blake, Lord Byron, Edgar Allan Poe, among others, reveal again that this is not just a musical piece of art but as well an enlighten, mind-liberating piece of pure philosophy and artistic eloquence. There is allot to learn from the spoken words, allot to drink from such rebel poetry and wisdom. A waste it would be to let this written wisdom be untouched once you buy this epic artistic piece!
Musically this is a completely dynamic album, the stunning vocals done by Quazarre, both vociferated and clean makes me dare to say that he is one of the best and most complete singers and musicians in extreme metal, these release is a proof of that, if that isn't enough, his guitar work is another highlight through all the album, the melodic touch, the outstanding riffs and leads, well... no wonder allot of other bands already requested for his services. The outstanding top-skilled tight drumming by Icanraz reveal that he is among the elite Polish drummers, must say his versatile work is an highlight through all these album. Never behind the other elements, Vraath pounding bass lines are a delight to the listeners ears, a constant dark pulse on the darkest tunes. One of the higher developments on the characteristic Devilish Impressions sound are without a doubt the majestic splendorous orchestrations done by the guests Peter ‘Lestath’ Leszczynski (METransmissionAL) and Wojciech ‘Flumen’ Kostrzewa (Asgaard). Enriching atmospheres that place the band side by side with other melodic metal legends, indeed some of the best orchestrations I heard in some good pack of time! To notice also the participations of Jacek Grecki (Lost Soul) with a great lead on “Vi Veri Vniversum Vivus Vici” and Roman Bereźnicki (Lecter) who added some good acoustic guitar and bass sound into this delightful release!
Can't really pick best songs on "Simulacra" from "Icaros" an epic hymn to the incarnated mankind's dream towards the apocalyptic "Legion of Chaos" where fountains of blood run down like rain in such mystical astral aura. Then come fourth "Lilith" a darkly romantic spine-chilling rhapsody to the non-submissive cursed ancient one who defied the gods of slavery, a song as addicting as haunted with such smashing mellow clean vocals. Quench your thirst as thou are god yourself... "Fear no gods!" unleashes the fury on an illuminated creation, a tune enriched with some outstanding clean vocals. When wolves and tigers howl for prey you will listen to "The scream of the lambs" an anthem of melodious delight with a superb guitar lead in the end. All your hope is gone in the "Spiritual blackout", engraved in black this is a darkened dynamic powerful track. March on! Conquer and take no slaves on "Vi Veri Vniversum Vivus Vici" ("By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe") another fast yet militant Pestapocalyptical tune followed by another outstanding epic hymn by the name of "The last farewell", wipe off the tears that run down your face as you hear to such intense and strong tune, here the choirs and melancholic clean vocals may give you some chills across thy spine and haunt you with such splendour. Simply the album couldn't end better than with the instrumental colossus by the name of "Solitude", close your eyes, transcend, let your soul fly and ascend to your own kingdom, for you are your own God!
"Simulacra" is a spine chilling experience for the listeners, a blend of eloquent philosophy and outstanding melodious orchestrations added to the epic extreme metal aggressive touch. All in the addicting right dose, dynamic in all its own extreme metal aura. Since I first heard "Icaros" (the first promo track for "Simulacra") I had no doubt that this would be one of the best albums for 2012 and years to follow, a piece not to be missed by any extreme metal worshiper, some of the best albums I heard in these last years, so complete, harmonious, spirited, all with a transcendent quality. A must have diamond on every Metalhead collection. With this work Devilish Impressions challenged the gods and flew above all men and reach the sun and the moon!

Sin duda, uno de los álbumes más esperados y adictivos del 2012. Devilish Impressions han dado un gran paso adelante en todos los aspectos de su carrera musical con este lanzamiento tan enriquecedor, una magnífica experiencia para los escuchas, aderezada por majestuosas orquestaciones y melodías agregadas al toque agresivo del metal extremo, todo esto en la dosis correcta. Una pieza dinámica en su propia aura extrema! En efecto, un lanzamiento completo que satisfacerá a la mayoría de los adeptos de este género del metal. Una pieza maestra de arte musical pulido en todos los bordes correctos… "Simulacra" es por supuesto, un lanzamiento imprescindible en el 2012, un producto de excelencia!

Devilish Impressions son considerados como una de las principales y más innovadoras bandas del balck/death metal de Polonia. Devilish Impressions oficialmente comenzó en el 2000 con tres miembros, como vocalista fundador y guitarrista Quazarre queda como el único miembro de la alineación original. Desde entonces, la banda siempre ha estado desarrollando su sonido en algo único y propio, con el "Diabolicanos, Act III...", el anterior lanzamienrto de la banda, se captuó la atención mundial de los fans y la prensa con su sonido "modern black death metal”, esto les ha permitido salir de gira con colosos de la talla de Behemoth, Hate, Vader, Suffocation y más! Sin embatgo, con esta nueva obra, Devilish Impressions deberá lograr mucho más, ya que su sonido se encuentra en la cima de lo que se ha estado haciendo en la elite del metal extremo de Polonia (Vader, Behemoth, Hate, Decapitated), cuando escuches "Simulacra" entenderás lo que quiero decir aquí , simplemente excepcional, el arte moderno del metal extremo con los aderezos adecuados para hacer que esta nueva pieza se convierta en uno de los mejores álbumes del 2012 dentro del género!
Cuando comparamos "Simulacra" (el cuarto opus de la banda) con los lanzamientos anteriores, solamente puedo decir que Devilish Impressions son mejores que nunca y han conquistado todo con este nuevo y excepcional sonido. Ellos han desarrollado su arte musical y la llevaron a un nuevo nivel absoluto, esto con un realce especial en todas las escalofriantes orquestaciones y estructuras musicales, delicadas pero aún ponderosas y dinámicas, una pieza de arte hecha de genialidad musical!
"Simulacra" se muestra a los escuchas como un gran lanzamiento del metal extremo, en mayor trabajo de Devilish Impressions a la fecha. Las melodías sinceras, las inolvidables y colosales orquestaciones, el cálido y bendito toque romántico aquí y allá, el aura épica, mística y trascendental, lirismo desafiante y elocuente, qué tan completo y dinámico puede ser este álbum!? Una poción mágica de metal extremo con un poco de todo, un viaje épico en un oceáno de creatividad y genialidad. Tan grandioso como otras obras de arte en el metal extremo creadas por otros Titanes del Metal! Tan sinfónico y épico como Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, Vesania o Septic Flesh, tan brutal como Behemoth, Vader o Arkhon Infaustus, tan melancólico como Katatonia u Opeth, tan oscuramente romántico como Cradle of Filth, Moonspell o Ancient, tan astral como Limbonic Art o Crionics... sin embargo tan único como Devilish Impressions!
La producción y grabación de "Simulacra" se realizó, en su mayoría, en los famosos Hertz Studios por Devilish Impressions y Slawek y Wojtek Wieslawscy (Vader, Behemoth, Crionics, Decapitated, etc.) así como la mezcla y masterización son simplemente otra pieza de arte salidas de estos excelentes estudios, tan limpio como majestuoso, así como debe ser, un ajuste perfecto para este Demoniaco álbum.
El álbum viene en un digipack de 3 aletas junto con un booklet de 16 páginas, todo con una portada increíble, layout y diseño realizado por Michal ‘Xaay’ Loranc (Nile, Vader, Behemoth, Necorphagist etc.). Una combinación perfecta de todo el concepto lírico del album, las piezas de ajedrez del “rey” Lucifer sobre el tablero sirven como un tema filosófico a través de todo este lanzamiento. La eterna dicotomía, desde la cuna a la tumba, entre el bien y el mal… una oda a Lucifer, el ángel rebelde.
Las letras escritas, en su mayoría, por Quazarre con el uso brillante de algunas frases de artistas como Oscar Wilde, Dante, William Blake, Lord Byron, Edgar Allan Poe, entre otros, de Nuevo revelan que esto no sólo es una pieza de arte musical, sino también una pieza iluminada de pura filosofía y elocuencia artística. Hay mucho que aprender de las palabras habladas, mucho que beber de esta poesía rebelde y sabia. Sería una pérdida dejar que esta sabiduría escrita permanezca intacta una vez que compre esta pieza artística y épica!
Musicalmente este es un album completamente dinámico, las impresionantes voces realizadas por Quazarre, tanto guturales y limpias hacen que me atreva a decir que el es uno de los mejores y más completos cantantes y músicos en el metal extremo, este lanzamiento es una prueba de eso, si eso no es suficiente, su trabajo guitarrístico es otro punto a destacar a través de todo el álbum, el toque melódico, los excepcionales riffs y leads, bueno… no es de extrañar que un montón de otras bandas ya han requerido de sus servicios. El destacado y habilidoso baterista Icanraz nos muestra que se encuentra entre la elite de los bateristas polacos, debo decir que su versátil trabajo es otro punto culminante en este material. Nunca detrás de los otros elementos, las líneas del aplastante bajo de Vraath son una delicia para los oídos de los escuchas, un constante y oscuro pulso en las más oscuras melodías. Uno de los desarrollos más altos en el sonido característico de Devilish Impressions son, sin lugar a dudas, las majestuosa y esplendorosas orquestaciones de parte de los músicos invitados Peter ‘Lestath’ Leszczynski (METransmissionAL) y Wojciech ‘Flumen’ Kostrzewa (Asgaard). Las atmósferas enriquecidas que colocaron a la banda codo a codo con otras leyendas del metal melódico, de hecho algunas de las mejores orquestaciones que he escuchado en un buen paquete de tiempo! También hay que tomar en cuenta las participaciones de Jacek Grecki (Lost Soul) con un excelente lead en “Vi Veri Vniversum Vivus Vici” y Roman Bereznicki (Lecter) que agregó algunas buenas guitarras acústicas y el sonido del bajo en este delicioso lanzamiento!
En realidad no puedo elegir las mejores canciones en "Simulacra" desde "Icaros", un himno épico para el sueño encarnado de la humanidad, hasta el apocalíptico "Legion of Chaos" donde las fuentes de sangre corren como la lluvia en un aura mística y astral. Luego vendrá "Lilith”, una rapsodia romantica y escalofriante para los que no estan sometidos a los malditos dioses antiguos de la esclavitud, una canción tan adictiva como hechizante con unas excelentes voces limpias. Sacia tu sed ya que tu mismo eres dios… "Fear no gods!" desata la furia en una iluminada creación, una melodía enriquecida con excelentes voces limpias. Cuando los lobos y los tigres aúllen para atacar, escucharás "The scream of the lambs", un himno de delicioso placer melódico con un super lead de guitarra al final. Toda tu esperanza se irá en la canción "Spiritual blackout", un negro grabado, este track es bastante oscuro, dinámico y poderoso. Seguir marchando! Conquisten y no tomen esclavos en "Vi Veri Vniversum Vivus Vici" ("By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe") otra canción rápida y a la vez militante y apocalíptica seguida de otro himno épico y sobresaliente con el nombre de "The last farewell", limpia las lágrimas que corren por tu rostro una vez que escuches una canción tan intensa y fuerte, aquí los coros y las melancólicas voces limpias probablemente te harán sentir escalofríos y te atraparán con su esplendor. Simplemente este album no podría terminar mejor que con el coloso instrumental que lleva por nombre "Solitude", cierra tus ojos, deja volar tu alma y esciende a tu propio reino, porque tu eres tu propio Dios!
"Simulacra" es una experiencia escalofriante para aquel que lo escuche, una mezcla de elocuente filosofía y melodiosas orquestaciones añadidas al toque épico y agresivo del metal extremo. Todo es una dosis correcta y adictiva, dinamica en su propia aura extrema. Desde que escuché por primera vez "Icaros" (el primer track promocional de "Simulacra") No tuve ninguna duda de que este sería uno de los mejores albumes del 2012 y de los años siguientes, una pieza que no debe perderse ningún fan del metal extremo, uno de los mejores albumes que he escuchado en estos últimos años, tan completo, armonioso, enérgico, todo esto con una calidad trascencente. Un “diamante” que todo metalero debe tener en su colección. Con este trabajo, Devilish Impressions desafió a los dioses y voló por encima de todos los hombres y alcanzó el sol y la luna!
